Total floor replace

William Henshall's saga replacing his floor raised a question for me. I replaced the floor in my 74 motor home; in this the plywood slides in a track that looks like an addition to the bottom of the channel used on the trailers (from his pictures it appears to be a u-channel which sits on top of the plywood).

When I pulled the body, I pulled the floor with it, because it was in the track. The instructions I have seen say remove the rivets and leave the channel. This is my question, why not pull the channel with the body? It would seem like it would leave a lot of support, and be much easier to set the flat channel back on the floor deck than try and fit the body over the channel.

On my 58 Traveler, I actually tried to leave the u-channel on the shell and take them both off together, leaving the floor clean.

The problem is that the belly pan is riveted through this to the top shell and you have to drill out all the belly rivets to get the belly off...and the belly rivets are *underneath* the shell rivets, so, ahem, you can't get there from here!
