Along that same line of question, when did Airstream switch from plywood to wafer board (or flake board)?
I know this was a serious floor rot issue after it was introduced in '02 in the 22' Int'l. I believe that was also a one-piece floor without joints. John Irwin had one of those models during the brief 2 year period when that model also experimented with no belly pan. I believe it had a membrane above the frame but below the floor. My '06 Safari floor is plywood. What have you seen & heard built from wafer board?
My '85 Excella has a wafer board floor. It looks good and solid (appears to be 3/4" thick). It must be an okay material to use as I know previous owners have towed the trailer from one side of the country to the other. It hasn't been a trailer parked in the back yard all its life.
Likewise, I'm surprised at how well the wafer head self-tapping bolts appear to be doing. However, I don't know yet if these were also used along the perimeter floor channel.
