The openings are already there for the tank, I just haven't mounted it yet. In the rush to get a tent for the inlaws, I skipped over a few non-essentials... Like a toilet, tanks, etc... ha! Those will be my winter projects. I'm hoping to have it 100% by SpringStream.
:-D

Cool, thanks. As long as you don't buy any more boats, you should be just fine by Springstream.

Well, since I began this adventure, I've had 2 lovely children (2 1/2 and 9 months), started a new business, bought 2 other Airstreams a John Deere, AND restored a Feathercraft. ha!
so that's technically 2 lifetimes, isn't it? It certainly feels like it at times! Sometimes I read back through the blog for fun. It's a novel at this point!
Honestly... no clue. And before you ask, I PROMISED myself I'd never add up the receipts.

I had over $2K JUST in aluminum for all the new skins I did... Basically, the only aluminum on it from 1959 is the end caps (interior and exterior) and the interior of the smaller door within a door... just so I could say that's original.
I'm probably realistically around $8K, including the purchase price... but like you said, I must have at least as many hours in it as you do.

Its been great reading your thread,I can't wait to my cruiser to the point of the fun stuff inside, your work looks great!I also checked out your thread on the featherlite. My wife is worried that I am just going to look for and buy stuff that needs polishing.Maybe its ok for her to be worried about the other stuff than she won't be so concerned about the supplies I'm getting for the airstream.
Thanks for the good reading

Thanks for the kind words! I've gotten it about as far as I can for now, at least. The axle is going to need some modifications to fit in correctly, and until I get my barn, I'm sorta limited to projects I can finish up in a day... which an axle swap that needs modifications most likely is not... :-(... SO.... I'm going to wait until I get a barn to dig back into the major things (like the axle, tanks, etc). In the meantime, I have a nice looking aluminum tent, with an AC, a space heater, a fridge and a bed... good enough for this rally! ha!
Here's a pic with the cushions up front.

JP, that looks great. I can't wait to see it next weekend. I want to walk in it and get a really good look.
We need to talk about some interior layout and design ideas.

I wouldn't say that! It's been an education to be sure. Lots of "what not to dos"... all items for the growing punch list!
I'd still love to see yours and compare notes. How's the wood holding up with all the traveling? Let me know next time you're within a state or so of Ga. Maybe we can meet up at a campground in between.

you know, the 18 footer feels bigger than our trade wind on the inside, even with the walls in the trade wind removed. I think it's a lack of upper cabinets. I love the open feel, but also love the storage (which the little one doesn't even compare to the 'wind on). I think it's a delicate balance. What you need to camp, vs what you need to feel serene. :-)
Speaking of camping, I'm planning on camping in it tonight with Bethany to break it in. Don't want the first camping trip to be with someone ELSE, now do i? That wouldn't be right, after 3 years of putzing with it. ha!
will I be seeing any pics of the new whale tail???

Had the pleasure of reading this "at one fell swoop". As another posted above, it's enough talent to spread around; thanks for the journey! Hope to see it or its brethren someday.

Okay Jordan, I've been reading through your thread in preparation for the interior work I'm about to begin on my trailer, and I've noticed how the calendar is swinging around quickly toward the Springstream date.
So I can't help but wonder-- how is the progress coming on the bathroom/plumbing/tanks that you had yet to do when you last used the trailer?
I'd like to act like I'm being friendly and prodding you along, but honestly, I just selfishly want to see what you do next.
And if you'd like to update the thread on the GT with all of your latest work on that one, that will work for me too.
Seriously, hope all is well with you and yours and that 2009 is treating you kindly.

I haven't had a free second to work on either trailer in a LONG time! I've been working on other things around the house. First and foremost... a place to KEEP the trailers! Hopefully, it will be done middle of next week, and I can start cleaning up the yard. I am SO sick of mud!! Here's a few pics of the future home of the pickle, shotgun, #51, and the elusive whale tail, if I ever find it!

almost forgot! The kids LOVE the barn, so I ended up making one for Ethan's 1st birthday a few weekends ago. Weathered, sealed, and complete with John Deere signs on the sides. It's a full 2 feet taller than Ethan!

You weren't joking. JP, that's awesome! You WILL find your whale tail, just when you least expect it.
