Square footage ?
We are purchasing a 71 Tradewind (25'). We were planning on a vinyl floor but after seeing how good the Pergo type floors look we may go that route. Unfortunately the trailer is about 3 hours away, and we won't be picking it up until late March/early April. We failed to measure for new flooring. Does anyone know about how many square feet will be needed for the entire trailer?
Thanks!

For an estimate, you could use 8' by the length of the trailer...which would be 200 sq. ft. in your case. That would give you enough for waste & scraps...
Good luck!

200 sq. ft. will be too much by maybe 100%. You do not appreciate how little actual floor area there is until you are down on your hands and knees cutting and measuring. Or is it measuring and cutting? I am pretty sure you do one of those first.
Anyway, the flooring does not go under the cabinets, the goucho/sofa, the beds, or the refridgerator; and I don't like it in the bathroom at all (some do, though). Even so, there is an amazing amount of waste in laying such a floor in an Airstream.
I believe I finally computed my '85 Sovereign at less than 90 sq. ft. of actual flooring surface. I probably used 25% more than that with waste and a mistake or two (or three).
If you buy it at Home Depot/Lowes wouldn't they take back unopened boxes?

Thanks for your replies! We had 100 square feet in mind not including the bathroom, so sounds like we may be on track. I think they do take back unopened boxes so we can always overpurchase a little to make sure we have enough.

I was including under the cabinets...it does go under ours. But you're right, if it's unopened they should take it back...

I have a 1969 25' Tradewind, and the 1971 is very similar.
The total area of the floor is about 152 s.f.
The attached diagram shows:
Blue = Exposed Bathroom Floor = 6 s.f.
Red = Exposed Living Area = 66 s.f.
Green = Under Front Gaucho = 22 s.f.
Hope it helps,
Christopher

Chris,
You did an excellent job of conveying the square footage complete with color coding. Wish I knew how to do that kind of stuff. Maybe one day.

thanks.
i usually refrain from posting too many images in an effort to conserve bandwidth for those without DSL or cable modems.
in this case, though, the image kept me from writing six confusing paragraphs.
i'm an architect, and i usually draw once what i'd otherwise have to explain twice. as you can see from my number of posts, i don't always have much to impart as far as Airstream knowledge. i give where i can.
i have some graphic skills, i just need some rivet skills... then life would be good.

Hello:
I'm purchasing a 16' 1962 Bambi and am interested in replacing the brown carpeting with natural cork flooring covered with a sisel runner. Could anyone help me with the approximate floor space I'll need to cover? I'll be buying 12" x 12" tiles at $6.00 a piece and would like to not under- or over-buy. The unit arrives this Thursday. Any help is appreciated.

Your question did not state which floorplan you have. I believe there are variations between the ones built in California and the ones built in Ohio. You also did not state whether you want to cover the floor partially under the gaucho, or in the bathroom. There are lots of ins-and-outs to go around and under things, so you'll end up having scrap-cut pieces anyway.
Other owners on this forum list the 1962 16' Bambi interior floor at 78"x156". If you take out the rounded corners, a perimeter of 24" for cabinetry and gaucho, and leave a space for the door, that leaves about 30 s.f.
I suggest that you wait until you get the Bambi, before you worry about the particular number of cork tiles you'll need.

Gerbermania:
Thank you for the information. And you're right, I'll wait until Thursday and get in there and measure. I'm not planning to tile the bathroom but do want to tile up under where the gaucho will pull out onto. (I think)
Perhaps 30-35 tiles will be enough, but I'll double check. Again, thanks.
