Soft Spot Reveal Rotten Wood - Now What?

We had the leak that was coming from under the door repaired and now we have to fix the floor. I peeled back the vinyl this morning and dug out some of the rotten wood and I've got quite a 'hole'. Neither one of us are 'handy'. I sincerely appreciate whatever experience / advice you may have. We want to do this on a budget because eventually we want to replace the entire vinyl floor. H E L P!

That's a common problem area that can be patched fairly easily (cut out the bad and splice in new). Of the course the main problem needs to addressed to - the leak. There are lots of airstreamers in your neck of the woods who can probably help.

I just bought a gutted 31' Sovereign '71 model. Subfloor has the same rotted problems at door and in rear bath area. With so much to do I would like suggestions as what to do first. Prepare wall and paint, fix the subfloor and or replace all water tanks. Thanks beforehand for your help.

The floor repair may need the interior skins removed. Sprucing things up is good but not falling thru the floor is best😳😄

Any decent carpenter can replace the rotten section. It seems to be away from the wall, which is good.

Foley Airstream over in Gulfport has a pretty good reputation if you would prefer to use a dealer.

Looks like you have done much of the hard part. Having had a similar issue, though our leak was from the sink area, replace with marine grade plywood.

If you've fixed the leak I'd recommend figuring out where the frame supports are in relation to the hole. Then cut away the bad wood, take an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the perpendicular side and cut to the midpoint of the frame support. Cut a new piece to fit the hole drill and secure with fasteners at least two on each frame support. You can then lay a bead of clear bath caulk over the entire perimeter to seal it, relay the flooring.

Again don't do anything until you've found and corrected the leak.

Try "Countryman RV and Marine repair" in Foley, Alabama. They have excellent techs, their rate are fair, and they're honest people. They have worked with my last 3 Airstreams whenever I find something I can't do myself...
They're located about 15 miles west of Pensacola...

I had a similar problem on my 1984 Excel or airstream floor in the bath area also a small spot in the living area. Some people call it the $40 fix. I treat the wood that is not totally rotten, with a mixture of hundred percent antifreeze 2 parts, liquefied borax one part and liquefied boric acid one part, this will kill the wood rot and any mold our bugs within it if any. I placed in the sprayer and liberally spread sprayed affected areas allow a couple of days to dry. Then use a scab supply wood and penetrative epoxy to seal the area. Then I use floor leveling to help with flooring bumps. I used vinyl Allure planks around the toilet.
This work great for me and it's a cheap repair if it works for you like it did me.
