You have an illness that is yet to be documented. It may become infectious to others. I'm going out to my trailer to clean something............

My AC came today, it a Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider / Casement Air Conditioner Model: FAK085R7V 14-3/16" W x 20-1/4" H x 24-1/2" D, 8,000 btu, Amps (Cool): 7.2. My plan is to turn it into a central air unit, if it doesn't work, I'm out $329.00 and no AC, putting on roof top air is not a option.

Are you planning to set it up to work like a slide-out? (projecting from the side of the trailer when parked and flush when traveling)

...or flush with a plenum for ventilating the compressor?

One nice thing about this unit is that you should be able to power it with one 2000 watt generator.

I can't wait to see how you work it out.

Here's a picture showing the front of AC with panel off. There's a fans in the unit that draws the warm air from inside the trailer over the evaporator coils than out as cold air. The evaporator coils have 132.25 sq. inches of area and the cold air going out is 45.0 sq. inches. I plan to run the cold air thru 3 tubes, 1 to the back 1 in the middle and 1 in the front of trailer. Each tube being 4" dia with 12.6 sq. inches, 3 x 12.6 sq inches = 37.8 sq inches.

In the below picture, the rectangle will become the plenum, 45.0 sq. inches. The circle's represent the 3 tubes, 4 inches in dia. 37.8 sq inches. Hoping to go with only 2, if not, will go the 3. The tube's will consist of Master Flow 4 In. Metalized R6 Insulated Flexible Duct from home depot.

The roof mounted A/C has one big advantage - the hot air rises (plus displaced by heavier cool air upwards) to meet the intake...

If you could have a 'thick' partition (hollow) bring the hottest air up near the ceiling into the unit I believe you would really have a good start!

Was planning on using the center FanTastic fan from http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Fan_Tastic_Fan_p/vts-414.htm
to take the hot air out, or a very small fan inside to mix the hot
and cold together, like a ceiling paddle in a home.

Started putting seals to the door today and what a pain, the pain is finding seals that will work to a door that will not go back the way it was. Plan to attach a seal to the door as show in the pictures then another seal to the door frame, then another seal to the outter flange of door, and if that works will seal the inner door. These type of doors are very cool, but have leaks written all over them.

The door new seal is installed between the interior skin and the outer skin, and then riveted in place using conventional bucked rivets.

Your painted floor

I've been considering painting my floor to tie together new nyloboard in the back and the rest of the plywood. It looks great! And, looks very encouraging.
Excellent work and thread details.

Thanks IndyAnne, the paint is there for added protection, we are going with wood or a linoleum for the finish.

This is looking great!
with the cold output at the ceiling it will naturally mix with the hot air as it falls. there is not a need for an auxiliary fan.

Thanks very much 1954cruiser. The AC unit is going to sit like the below picture. Going to build duct work for the outside incoming air (the side louvers) and run the ducts through the belly pan to outside and same for the hot air going out. Then build a door for the hot side that tilts away from the incoming cool outside air........like yours.

Changed my AC design today, and today was a good day to work on the AC being that it is 90 deg's. I did a test run with the AC trying it between the beds and I was amazed how cool the inside got in a short time, could feel the cool air all the way to the front, and to the ceiling. Will run the warm air behind the license plate. Will build duct work for the outside incoming air (the side louvers) and run the ducts through the
belly pan to outside fresh air.

Cutting away the louvres on the sides of the case (where outside air is drawn in) will go a long way to reducing the white noise made by the unit when running. The louvres create a lot of turbulence.

Also, coating the inside of the chamber enclosing it with sound absorbing material (like the fiber mats for car hoods, for example) will reduce the noise further.

This will give you a much more comfortable sleeping environment - unless you like white noise when you're sleeping.
