The panel looks terrific. Nary a wave, let alone a wrinkle.
The jalousies really take time. Mine were loaded with wasp nests, lizard eggs and who knows what else. Plus, most of the glass panes were broken or cracked. All the gasket material was shot. I opted to drill out the rivets and remove them so I could work at table height. It took an entire day.

I've been doing some searching on tail lights, mine are cracked and missing some cracked bits, it seems there's 3 choices:
A- new Bus type 7" LED's
B- back ordered Bargman 99 lenses
C- modify an LED unit to fit the 99's
I was wondering is there is an option D, namely something similar, also vintage/ retro looking but that has already been altered for LED's or maybe just one that is new and bright? I like the Reflect-O-lite from VintageTrilersupply and thought maybe someone had figured out a new mounting plate for them?
My choice would be the 99's or Reflect-O-Lite but I'd love a bit more built in safety.

Keep an eye on ebay. That's where I picked up my 99's. Seems like they do come up with some regularity. The ones I got were brand spanking new though I thought I was buying used.

I just took a look on ebay and there are a pair of new ones available now. I just searched on "Airstream" and they were on page 3.

Okay, I am going to plead my case and I am sure there are a few that will disagree with me...
I am old school in my thinking. Yes, brightness and safety... yeah, I know the pros. But for me, and this is my opinion, I like them stock. They put out enough light and they are period appropriate. You have a truly classic vehicle and it should look that way. When I see a vintage rig with LEDs, it just does not look right to me. I have the original Bargrams with filament bulbs and they light up just fine for me. The red lens on the licience plate holder glows too.

If you are interested in this look, they can be had at TA Truckstops for about $25.
Sorry Frank

In all fairness, I did make an alteration to create some extra brightness. I added hot rod style "blue dots"...
and the solid metal end on the end license plate holder for the 1962 was replaced with an earlier era red glass lens. But they are all just filament bulbs behind there.
I just could not see Wally's Gold Trailer with LED's. Is that a sad photo or what? I had to walk through peoples yards to get that close, she is shoved way off in a corner of the factory grounds. Sad, a very sad trailer she has become. Hard to see this kind of treatment to trailer bandits in Africa were trying to chase down because they thought it was made of solid gold.
Could you see the Granddaddy with LED's?
I just see the soothing glow of a filament behind that 1939 glass. Not a light emitting diode.
Now, as I said, this is all just my opinion. My opinion means nothing except it is mine. And as always, "to each his own"

I don't know why I didn't think of Ebay! Pure genius, thanks DieselE.
Could you tell me more about this blue dot modification Frank?
It was like Christmas today (well it rained rather than snowed but it was pretty snormy). I picked up a Makita 7" Sander/ Polisher and almost had myself convinced that as it technically could be used to sand wood it was almost a business expense-able purchase. Then I found a large Jestco box and an Aircraft Spruce carton in my mail, woo hoo!
If I get a delivery from VintageTrailerSupply and the wheel well trim manufacturer before Friday I'm hoping for a fun weekend.

I am with Frank on this one. LED's on a vintage trailer makes them look. er, less vintage.
This is the back of my 62' Safari, which I polished (again) on the way to R1R and VTJ. The lights are plenty bright.
Lights not on, but shiny!

let's face it Gary, It's a 62 thing and they might not understand...
Truck, the blue dots are a hot rod thing from the fifties. A cut blue glass gem is put in front of the bulb and the glow from the blue mixes with the red to create a bright purple center. Not sure if they are allowed in Alberta. Not too sure they make all that much difference either. I just look at my girl as a hot rod....

I was considering using LEDs for my exterior lights, but ultimately decided against it. I, too, think the look just a little too contemporary for a vintage trailer.
But, others have done it, and well. At the end of the day, it's your rig.
I am doing my best to keep the exterior looking as original as possible, while taking some MAJOR liberties with the interior.
That's my $.02 (Canadian, of course ).

And while we are on the subject of tail lights, I have noticed some people customizing with clear lens and red LEDS inside. Usually on late fifties styles.
To me, and it is just my opinion as always, it looks like they forgot to replace the lens covers.
I like the deep red against the color of the aluminum. I do.
Wally liked Red too. We just attended the Region One Rally in Vermont and two very nice things happened while there. A couple parked across from us walked over and asked if our trailer was made in Ohio. Then he presented us with this 1962 Ohio license plate. Later in the day this Wally Byam Caravan embem showed up on our table left by a mysterious Vermont Vintage trailer person. He was very tall and liked pie.

Not to hijack Truck's amazing work, but when it comes to anything related to safety I hate to compromise. LEDs are bright, even in daylight. If that makes my trailer more visible, great. Hey, I'm even thinking about running lights on "Ed" and maybe a 60s era flashing yellow.

You should do whatever you are comfortable with. I am very comfortable with my filament bulbs, and do not feel they are any less safe than LEDs would be. I do not feel it is a "compromise" of any kind, safety-related or otherwise, to remain with the original style bulbs and not modify to LEDs.
Again, you should do whatever you feel comfortable doing when it comes to things you perceive as safety issues.

OK, time to make up my mind so I've decided on option E.
Brand spanking new Bargman 99's (fingers crossed).
However.... I may supplement them with a discrete higher output LED item mounted elsewhere. Very possibly inside the trailer. Had I thought of it earlier I would have considered "Frenching" (I hope that's the right term) some 2" LED units into the bumper, oh well next time.

If you don't win the auction, I followed a thread this morning and ended up at a Silver Streak forum post that offered more info and contact info on the Ebay seller. Its a year old, but it does suggest that he takes direct orders. It does look like the price has gone up a touch in a year. Silver Streak Discussion Board • View topic - Bargman 99 Lens-Where to get

UPS contributes to Airstream project
I just picked up the J trim that was shipped by the brown van method. Suffice to say their efforts at bending the trim weren't quite what I had envisaged.
Maybe this is why VintageTrailerSupply doesn't ship wheel well trim to Canada? For sure using a PVC pipe would help but still. Any how the actual product looks to be just what I needed. (It came from Morse Industries).

Brown van? You mean "United Parcel Smashers".
They should be arrested for usery for their "brokerage fees" to get stuff across the border into Canada.
:: patui :: I NEVER use them, never!

I go out of my way to avoid UPS just because they love to smash my stuff up and then try to weasel out of it. (It's a toss up between the time they dragged a carton with my state-of-the art mountain bike down the steps to my front door snapping the frame dropouts off and dropping double boxed steel truck rims so hard they bent them out of round!). U-haul is a very close second in terms of skulduggery in my books.
On the bright side USPS has been very good and I look forward to receiving many more Airstream parts shipped with them. Truth be told I'm working on a list of things I can pick up in California, I conveniently booked tickets to see Dave Matthews on the 9th of September at The Greek Theatre as my GF is a huge fan knowing that Aircraft Spruce and Inland are just a stones throw away... It'll be fly-drive so no Precisiontemp units, just little stuff.

Truck, Is this the wheel well wrap you are looking for?
I bought that from Outwater Plastics. It sells 12 foot at a time and it came in a long box cut into two 6 foot pieces as I asked. They can do up to 8 foot long. Tony, my UPS driver delivered it safe and sound as he always does. Maybe the brown shirts in Canada are upset with stuff coming from the States, I don't Know. I do know that, for me, UPS is my shipper of choice.
