Rear bumper storage

I'll finally be tackling my rear end frame repair in few weeks (sandblast,weld, paint)

I found the below pics on a members page (Mr. Sovereign) and looks to be a rear bumper storage modification. Since I'm welding on new Longitudinal frame members, would there be any negatives to extending them a little further out than original and making the bumper storage compartment larger?
