Questions about C channel

I have a 67 Globetrotter. I want to replace the rear C channel. I'm going to take the tar paper cutout I made while the airstream was still together to a shop and have a new channel made.

It looks like the C channel just along the very rear has the lip to hold the floor inside, but the C channel along the curves and alone each side are different. There is no extra piece to slide the floor into. Anyone ever run into this?

One site indicates that before 66, the C channel didn't have the piece to slide the floor into rather you attach the floor under the C channel.

Do I duplicate what I have? Is there a benefit to upgrading to the newer C channel?

My 71 does not have the "lip" either. I wouldn't worry about it.

I found 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2" at grainger. didn't see guage yet. I've also asked a local machine shop to quote me a price. VTS has it as 1 5/8 x 5/8 x 1 5/8".

Do I need to stick to exact dimensions? There must be a reason they made the inside leg shorter.

I talked to ODM and their curved end stock are for later model narrow body. I was hoping he meant narrow body vintage oh well.

The width is the critical dimension and should match the rib width. Leg height doesn't need to be any greater then about an inch. The thickness varies by year with earlier years thinner then later. 1/16" is plenty

Just wondering,,is it a big job to take out the stove in my 1978 International and replace with just a gas cook top and a shelf underneath for my toaster oven. The stove is original but works well and I have never used the oven it looks new.

If it's like the one in our trailer it should be fairly easy. First close the tank valves outside then turn on the cook top and light a burner. This will burn off any propane in the gas line to the stove. The wire pot support piece on top of the stove lifts off, then lift the flat sheet metal top around the burners. The stove should be connected to the counter top with 4 screws. They go horizontally into the counter top through holes in the 4 upper corners of the stove. Once they are gone you should then disconnect the gas line. At this point the stove should just lift out. Ours weighs about 35 lbs. Many earlier 70's trailers came with a cook top in that area with drawers underneath and a wall mounted oven at the other end of the sink. Good luck.

If I was doing a shell off I would probably do away with the C channel design flaw of using plywood as a washer in a structurally critical connection. I have thought about using a 3" to 4" wide 1/8" thick aluminum plate between the frame and shell. This would give up about 3/4" interior height since the plywood would only go on top of the plate inside the inner skin, not between the shell and frame.
