Almost 4 Years to The Day

It was a day much like today....September of 2012, when I purchased my '72 Trade Wind from a farmer in Minnesota....where it had been sitting neglected for a number of years.

Now, nearly 4 years to the day, I can finally say that for all intents and purposes, my full monty is complete. Of course, there will always be things to do...perhaps re-do...as we get to know each other. But I have already enjoyed several short trips, and everything works as I had dreamed it would.

So, just a few last pictures of the trim work I have been installing over the last few days...and restoring the nomenclature to a vibrant blue.

Safe Travels All! It's been a great adventure....(and somewhat exhausting...in more ways than one....)

Trade Wind....Take Me Away......

Did Arktos55343 take the "Internet Cure" or just the "Airforums Cure"?

I wouldn't blame you if you lost Airforums URL, yup, this place got me into a whole lotta trouble too!

I stopped in and visited for a while a week or so ago with his Airstream & it presents as a work of Art, period. Best fine craftsmanship from the tailgate of a work truck I've ever seen. His trailer did seem lonely though, perhaps there will be another soon?

Arktos55343, congratulations and we'n hope to hear of adventures and fine-tuning the systems soon!

A Sad Ending to a Beautiful Beginning....

Dear Friends -

Just out of the hospital, and on way too many pain meds at the moment, I am sorry to report that my dream has come to an abrupt end.

Approximately 4:30am Saturday....cruising down I35 north of OKC...on my way to Phoenix...my recently completed '72 Vintage Trade Wind 25' towed by my F250 Super Duty, was struck from behind at a high rate of speed....causing my rig to go into a violent skid and catastrophic roll-over. Everything is a total loss. And I am lucky to be alive.

Be careful out there!

Arktos,
So sorry to hear of your accident. I hope you have a full and speedy recovery and that the other driver has good insurance, but nothing can replace the effort you obviously put into your restoration.

Oh, no!

So happy that you're alive, but so sorry for your loss!

Can't imagine how frightening it must have been. We've rolled in daylight and it's not something you'll forget.

Hope you have good care, and a quick recovery. And for the others involved I hope they have insurance.

Totalled....but alive.

Just a couple pics of the after-math. Thank you all for your well wishes!!

Just as an after note....I reported to the trooper that I smelled alcohol on the other driver's breath. The trooper chose to do nothing about it. Going to stop into the OKC highway patrol and see what can be done to change that determination.

Safe travels, all!

Ark

The fact that you're able to be posting those pictures today looks like a miracle based on the damage. I'm glad for that. Yes, bummed about your trailer which apparently you did a ton of work to - that has to be a hard blow. And yet still - I look at those pics and this could have ended very differently. Hard to grasp. Be well.

So sorry to hear about your bad accident, but happy to hear that you will be ok after the healing process. I can't imagine what you feel and are going through.

Don't let this ruin your dream. You can find another vintage Airstream.

Makes me sick that the Trooper chose to ignore the drinking.

Amen to these well-said words. Remarkable you are OK arktos, and thank you for the photos. Did a tall truck hit your AS's left rear corner to cause all that damage up so high?

Ark, So sorry to hear this unfortunate event. Be frugal with the pain meds. Start shopping for a truck and trailer for spring travels. Trust me, camping is the best physical therapy out there. Ark, you walked away?...you're one tough cowboy.
