Nyloboard

I was driving picking up new locks for my airstream compartments. I was getting them for free from a person who did not need them. On my way I went by a new factory in Covington Georgia that makes Nyloboard. When I got home I called the company and asked about their product. I asked if they had 3/4 inch sheets 4 x 8 sheets of this product and they said they did. They told me it was stronger then 3/4 inch plywood and water resistant. I asked them if I could use it for a subfloor and would it carry more weight then 3/4 plywood. I was told over the phone it was stronger and more durable then plywood. Nyloboard is going to send me a sample to look at. I am posting the link for you other people to check out. I have never used this product but it sounds pretty good. Nyloboard - Applications

Interesting. I wonder what level of off-gassing there is with this product.

Nyloboard cost

4' X 8' sheet 3/4" thick . I think she told me $139.00. She did say it is a true 3/4" thick.

The website says it weighs 40lbs/cu.ft. which translates into 80lbs for a 3/4X4'X8' sheet.

According to Bob Vila... the same sheet of plywood weighs about 75lbs.

Thanks Brian, this is great info. Karma coming your way. It's nice to see that it's made from recycled materials.

Very interesting. A lot of folks out there have an interest in flooring that is not going to fail after some inconvienient leaks. Very interested to hear of how this works. Stats look impressive!

I requested a sample from the company, if the product is anything like their customer service (sort of a apples to oranges comparison) it will be awesome. Kinberly said the sample is on it's way to me UPS.

Previously when we've looked at plastic replacement for plywood it has been strong and light, but not as stiff as plywood, and so it needs more supports under it than plywood, else it flexes underfoot. It will be interesting to see if this stuff performs better.

I checked the web site. It said nothing about a fire rating, flame spread, etc. Fire is usually the downside with plastic recycle products. FYI - better safe than bar-b-que!

I got my Nyloboard samples

The boards feel strong and look good. Maybe I will chip some off and put a match to it. I am only going to use one piece in the bathroom. If it catches on fire then at least it is in the tail end of the trailer. The test will be when I put the whole piece in .

Advantech

Why not just use Advantech Advantech Flooring - Huber Engineered Woods
All the builders around here including me use it in subfloors of new construction because you can leave it exposed for long periods of time with no deterioration and is warrantied for 50 years.
Just a suggestion.

I used it for a hot tub cover and I put styrofoam on the adventec and Ihad put a sealer on it. It lasted six months and started to crumble. The hot tub steam was to much for it.

What is the cost of Advantech vs Nyloboard? At $140.00 a sheet Nyloboard should far exceed Advantech in quality. If not, why spend the extra dollars. Plus you have to pay shipping from Georgia.

Nyloboard is made from Nylon. My understanding from speaking with the nyloboard tech person it is made from recycled carpet scraps.. When they built my house 15 years ago the construction people through the left over carpet after installation in a hole in my woods with all the wood scraps. The wood scraps rotted away but the carpet is still there and has not rotted away. I sure hope nyloboard is made from the same stuff.

I am fortunate because I live 30 minutes away from the factory. I won't have to pay for shipping. I am going to try it. I am picking up my nylo board this monday.

Brian,
I'm glad to hear you are going to try it. I am convinced that I should use it too, but I live 800mi away. Funny thing is, I picked up my trailer right near there... I could have loaded 7 sheets into the trailer and been working on my floor now. As they say " If I knew then, what I know now"

Thanks for pointing out the product and please post your thoughts on how you like working with it. BTW, are you getting the stuff with the fiberglass skins? It is not that much more expensive.
