Ifyou want to be able to camp "self-contained" it sure is. More than ever in fact: you can't just let the grey water trickle out onto the ground, since it's illegal to do that anywhere I can think of.

If you never camp anywhere but RV parks, then yes, you can do without it.

Rear end issues

Not every "long" Airstream has the frame problem.

We see many of them, and can easily say, the lack of proper PM, is the basic cause of the rear end problems. Not all, but most.

Lack of proper running gear balance, is a killer for the longer trailers.

Bad axle rubber rods, play havoc with the rear ends as well, because of added road shock transfered to the chassis.

OK Let talk Grey water tanks.

Got any threads you would like to share?

Are there Pre made tanks to go in the hole I already have?

I am going to have to add this to my sub conscious list of things to do

Okay.
The first year Sovereigns had grey tanks was 1973, usually as 1974 models. They were a whopping 10 gallon capacity, but had the advantage of easily going in the space under the floor, beneath the bathtub. You can get one to go in there, and get one up to about 25 gallon capacity, though it's not a good idea to tow any real distance with the tank full.
A better alternative these days is to get a "generic" grey tank, and mount it, say between the axles. It's a simple plumbing matter, running an ABS pipe the same diameter of what you already have up to the top of the new tank, putting in a vent, and installing a drain pipe and dump valve. If you went that route, you could simply put a Tee in the drain pipe that goes from the kitchen sink straight down to the top of the new grey tank.

I added a grey tank to my 65 sovereign. Put it right behind the rear axles.

Making Progress

Howdy Folks!

I know its been sometime since I took the time to post here but its been on my mind to do so.

I have been making progress & modifications.

The Frame replacement is done minus the rear bumper Waiting to engineer & install the new custom Poop / Grey water tank.
& the floor is IN!!!

So happy about that one there
1st time in probally 20 years its buttoned up.

Yea I been slacking on it but .
I have good excuses. well at least their fun!
A whole Lotta Fun.
So Happily Divorced As of Sept. 28th 2011.
Dropped about 35 Lbs.
Bought A Harley
& got a few cuties i'm seeing .
One I really fond of.

Working in the dirt has made it hard & the cold of the winter time shut me down as far as wanting to get on my Air Dream

I also Gutted the living room area .

All the factory stuff I carefully removed & I want it sell it to someone who can use it I really hate to send it to the land fill Bathroom & living room minus anything that was trashed.

I even started cleaning her up . I literaly had to take a water hose to the interior when the cleaner hit the GACK it turned orange probally Nicotine, YUK!!

I really have to orginize my photos & find the ones for the actual repairs & post them

Now comes the trick part making the custom shower & moutning the toilet. then monting the bumper & cuting the frame back then making the trunk area

So far the POLY is great its a little heavier than wood but it will NEVER rot.

Ok Going to do some more on it today.

Hey Y all!

Seems like it was just a day ago I was on here last but almost a month.

I have made some progress & am at the point I need to know if there are pre made Grey / Black H2O tanks ?

After talking to a few freinds about the poly tank Its really heavy it would be about 100Lbs empty.

The Poly Worked T totaly awsome for the floor replacement Vs. the Ply Wood.

Istill need to mount the bumper & cut a beaver tail & shorten the frame But I wanted to do it after the tank is in.

Still Factory Demsions just a little longer.

If I can find one that wil work It would speed up the re ~ assembly process.

But I do have some pictures!

If I was getting a custom tank I would relocate the toilet to where you see it in the picture above,

A simple plumbing matter? I'd hate to see what you call a complex one, Terry!

Inland RV sells an exact replacement 1969 black tank. You'll need someone to make you a new sheet metal pan for it since yours is likely rotted away like ours was.

I as wondering if there was a grey/ black H2o tank avalable ?
I guess I will have to call during buisness hours.

I already have a piece of aluminum to replace the piece torn off.
And I have the skills to intall it .

I I keep her I will re pull the belly pan

Hell If I keep her for a long time I will do a total restoration.

then I will replace the entire floor with poly then it will be invincable.

Right now I need to concentrate on getting it usable by the fall.

I verry rarely sell one of my Babies the get transformed into something bigger & better .

I have 26 hours in on polishing the skin so far.
I am figuring 150 to bring it to my happy place.

Did I mention I am a Detailer?

Thanks to everyone who reads this & helps . Much gratitude
