Neat 34

Howdy gang!

I recently saw this 34 footer at a Camping World parking lot. I thought his frame mods were pretty cool. The front frame has been extended quite a bit and a large storage box added. Neat! He's also got flood lights mounted fore and aft.

If the owner is a member on here, then my hats off to you for some neat mods. I've often thought of extending the front frame of mine and putting a place to carry the Harley. Tongue weight would go up a might, but better than trying to hang it off the back. And as you can see, his frame extension is way beefier than the OEM frame.

I love the 34's, and this mod is really neat.

I hadn't really noticed it before...not my trailer, I just took a picture of it. But it does look like it's angled up in the front a little.

I'd had some posts on here a few years ago about possibly building "MonStream" where some guys sent in pictures of Airstream shells on utility trailer frames. This one kind of falls in the middle between normal and monster

I once thought of going this to my PanAm. I crunched the numbers and concluded the chassis would need massive reinforcing, adding loads of weight on top of 2 additional lpg bottles and the weight of a real genset.

I think that is an optical illusion. Any picture taken above the plain of the frame, photographer was standing up, would give that effect because of the A feature of the tongue. Additionally the angle formed between the front of the Airstream and the storage suggest this causing one to accept the illusion.

That makes an already too long trailer even longer.

That's a 34' lounge slide out, and we measured the tongue weight of one that a member in our club owns at 1350 pounds, stock.

I can't imagine what that one weighs, but sure it would depend on what all is in the storage box.

My PanAm tongue weight is about 1400 pounds, loaded. Its a nogo fir that but still considering it fir mu Classic.

The length of that a-frame via leverage alone is going to load the crap out of that frame several feet back from the ball, even if there was no additional weight with the big storage boxes.

Too much imo for the 1/8" stock that was hooked to somewhere back there.

All else being equal, the tongue weight would go down with the extended tongue.

Since the moment arm is longer, there's more leverage. So it could actually reduce the tongue weight.

Now, if he's got his blacksmith tools in the storage box, then you'd have to factor that in.

Long is all a matter of preference Park my 34 beside a tri-axle 42' fiver toy hauler and it looks like a pipsqueak. I like 34's. You guys that don't...cool. That leaves more of them for me.

It is true that the longer tongue will drop the tongue weight, the long tongue is going to press up harder at the front of the trailer, and down harder some feet back.

In short, it is going to add a lot of stress to the frame further back than the extra beef visible under the trailer.

If the original frame had been made from 1/4" stock, it wouldn't be a big deal, 1/8", I think so.

If I was looking at adding length I would prefer living space as opposed to storage space.
