Millertime's rear bathroom rot '76 Tradewind thread

My airstream had an antenna of some sort added to the roof with the cable through a 1/4" hole drilled through the skins and in to a cabinet.
I pulled it out and added a small grommet. I ran my solar wire through the hole and sealed it with OSI Quad. You can't see it from the ground and it hasn't leaked in 3 years, but it is part of my annual inspection.

Prior to mounting the panel on the roof I would put it on the propane tanks and run the wires in the space around the battery door.

Oh yeah there is a healthy gap in that door for venting and also a great call to mount on the tongue vice roof!

You could back feed thru the umbilical cord if you get a kit that has the solar control in the panel.

I would not recommend that option. Batteries that sit around in a discharged condition form sulfates on the plates and are never any good once that happens.

We are back! After a two year tour on Oahu we fly into San Diego next week. Once I pick up my TV my father-in-law and I are headed out to the desert to see how Amazing Grace has fared in storage. We will also be replacing the old Penguin II with a newer Dometic Blizzard NXT as well as getting her back to road ready status.

Then myself, wife, and 4 kids are headed across the country for a 45 day adventure. Excited!

Yes, yes, welcome back indeed. I hope Grace rested comfortably while you were away. I was recently discussing RV air conditioners with an Airstreamer. He commented on how cheap they are made. I don't need one for my Overlander. Maybe you will disagree after installing your new unit.

Oh by the way, I did trade my Trade Wind for this 1975 Overlander that I've been renovating for the last two winters. It likely is built similar to your mid seventies Trade Wind.

Aloha all! I need some help, but first a quick update:

Well we made it across the country. I have photos to share of the new Dometic Blizzard NXT install as well as some other lessons learned after 2 years stored in the desert.

We towed Grace over 4K miles across the country and had over 40 nights of camping with our 4 kids and dog. It was quite the adventure. We have since arrived here in Bethesda for our next tour of duty and parked Grace in the driveway.

Yesterday a large branch from the neighbors tree fell on the rear endcap. You can see from the photos that it is pretty extensively damaged. We have an agreed value policy through Progressive and I have started the claims process. Not sure yet whose insurance will be liable as we are renters, etc.

I need any advice on the situation as well as how to get a quote for repair. Obviously this is my baby and I would want the work done to be as good as I put into her. I am thankful that no one was hurt though.



The last is of my interior endcap, it is crushed in somewhat as well. I haven’t gotten on top to assess everything but looking for advice. Thanks!

I was just thinking about you and your project last week.

Glad to see you back at it. It sucks about the tree, but I think it should fall on your neighbor, but your insurance company should do all of the fighting for you.....
