Michelin tires

I think I've spent hours reading about tires on the forums. I've come to the conclusion of getting Michelin LTX M/S 2 for my 1973 23 ft. safari. The dealer is recommending size 225/75 R15; but these tires come in a 235/75 R 15. Would this be a problem fitting for this AS? Also, the load rating is only XL - can't seem to find it in a C or D rating, but I think this should be more than adequate for my trailer - am I thinking correctly?
Thanks

You are thinking just fine. I run Michelin's on both of our trailers and just finished 4000 miles to NM and back with the 235/75/R15 tires. I'm very happy with them.

You should be fine with a 23, but you should also be aware that (if I understood you correctly) the tire you are considering is a passenger car tire that is also approved for light truck service. Presumably it is a P235/75-15 LTX MS/2, but not an LT235 tire, as the last time I looked Michelin did not make LT (Light Truck) tires in a 15" size. The point of all this is that these tires, when used in trailer service, should be de-rated to 90% of the published rating. Many on here run those tires, even on 25 and larger trailers and have reported good results. I chose not to use them on my 25 because the weight carrying capacity was not close to that provided by the tires specified for my trailer.

I also run 235/75-15's on my trailer...all six of them (seven if you count the spare). I thought the 225's looked too short in height....

Disclaimer: I run an Avion and don't know if the fenderwells are roomier than on an Airstream. The 235's clear on my rig and have never rubbed in over 20,000 miles towing over all kinds of surfaces. But I can't speak that they will clear on all Airstreams.

Best of luck,
