It's in. The two toughest items - squishing the new insulation down as I worked the panels into the c-slots and finding some place to tap since one of the edges was tapered. I screwed a couple of small pieces of ply onto the panels so I could tap. I also used a porta power to push gently. The beveled joint worked pretty good so far.

Now I have to pull the plastic banana wraps and thru bolt in 6-8 places.

Great work, bet it smells a lot better in there too!! Very smart idea on the joint, lots of surface area for glue.

That is the neatest "patching-in" job I've seen on any of these threads. You've taken "measure twice, cut once" to a new level. Even though your craftsmenship will eventually be covered by flooring material, you'll know its there.

Todays results

This morning started with a trip to the Home Depot, lightening the ole checking account by $250...

I then dropped the Banana wraps and got the misses to help bolt the outrigger/c channels/frame together. 50 rivits later that part was done, the banana wraps are back and the front is close to complete. I still plan on adding a brace to help with Front End Separation that these model trailers are prone to exhibiting.

I went ahead and removed the floor cabinets and the dinet.

Flooring

Installation of the flooring went fast since I decided to go width wise. We made it all the way to the rear of the kitchen with 4 boxes of flooring.

Then its a matter of reinstalling the cabinet and dinet. When I get the frame separation bracket installed I can put back in the front walls and the sofa.

Beautiful work!!! I can't help but think that OSB "plywood" is a liability for the newer Airstreams.

That hurts just looking at it - at least he will get "priority" treatment when going through airports for a few months.

We have the technology. We can rebuild him. Bigger, stronger faster.

Hope he's doing well. There's no two ways about it. Surgery hurts.

Credit is Due

The misses put me on notice today. A new entry is to be added for her efforts. She feels I am getting all the glory for the refurbishing of 'no name'.
She started her day by steam cleaning the smelly, stained sofa. Then tackled the tedious task of removing the broken tabs from the freshly laundried curtains and sewing on the new tabs, all the while silently cursing the sewing machine I so lovingly bought for her years ago. (I think she has used it twice-finally getting my moneys worth) I must say cleaning the curtains and the sofa has dramatically improved their appearance as well as the funky smell that loomed in the air in the camper.
I see a dinner and a movie in her future once we get our new room mate (our 23 year old son) back on his feet from the broken knee .

The front 1/2 of the floor is now solid and covered. I figure that's about the same as a Bambi or Flying Cloud...

Now for the back 1/2...

I knew I had issues around the toilet and it was either a leak in the toilet or the vent - either way the floor is bad, the toilet is getting replaced and the vents will get new seals. The good news...no c-Channels to deal with

Body Separation

"While I'm Here"...
I'm adding a panel to prevent body separation. A few of the forum members have had issues with newer well-traveled units and the front body panels splitting. This isn't an issue on the older trailers since there was a metal verticle panel on the frame that was rivited to body.

This insert is riveted to the outer skin and bolted to the frame.

Man....I can't believe how much some of ya'll get done every day...

Looks great -

What thickness of metal did you use for the front clip, and did you bend it on a brake?

Seems like good piece of preventative maintenance.

.120 thick and that's about as thick as the little hand brake at work can handle.

I thought I would have access to a rivet gun but it fell thru so I ended up using 3/16 pop rivits . Now I have to seal them.

I did leave enough room for another row of real rivits if these show any signs of failing.

Looking good, it's a shame that your deal on the solid rivets fell apart. Why don't you just swing by my place and we can shoot a couple rows of 3/16's solids in it, it will only take a few minutes.

Whew

Tonights progress. Tightened up the bolts for the front separation plate, added insulation, riveted in the front panels (that was no fun!), installed the curtain tracks, hooked up the charging system and placed the sofa. The sofa arm rests are garbage so they will take some fab work - I'm gonna try someting different and see how it goes.

Now to the bathroom

Hi Ho,

Excellent work and I know not only you but all those who have had opportunity to read and especially see the work you have done have also learned a lot. Good luck on the bathroom and then sit back and have a well earned libation! Oh, cannot forget your wife - one for her too.
