I need a hug.

Picked up a '73 Tradewind, perfect skin aside from roadside banana wrap that was dented in and one tiny, but deep scratch in the rear. Interior all in tact and in really great shape as well. Felt so lucky with my new find and was looking forward to hitting the road. I had checked carefully for floor issues, but not careful enough! After days of cleaning i could smell an odor under the gaucho, removed it today only to find an ant infested rotted hole. Removed the banana wrap, filled with sludge from hell. Question is just how to go about fixing it.

Oh - I'm sooo sorry. It sounds like you have might have a leak that needs to be tracked down. The floor repair might be a "cut out the soft area and patch in a new piece" affair.

You can do this...

We're going to needs some pics.....

Thats a fairly common location to have rot. The "C" channel in the wall catches all of the leaks and that particular spot is where it all dumps out onto the plywood. If that is the only location that you have issues, consider yourself very lucky.

A simple local patch and you will be back on the road in a mater of a day or two.

Keep us posted...

Sorry. How frustrating!

I have no skills to help but I will say we recently went on a Glamping rally with the New England Unit of the WBCCI and had a trailer tour of everyone's trailers. There were trailers from the 50s through today and a ton of absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. I noticed you're from MA. Perhaps you could reach out to that group and connect with some folks who could consult with you on your options. You can find them here: http://newengland.wbcci.net/

Good luck!

Get you one of those vibrating saws and you can cut out a square section and insert some pieces of wood under the floor to support the new piece. These sections should be held by screws that go through the old floor and the new pieces. Now put your new piece in and put screws through it into the new pieces below. I bet there is another soft spot on the opposite side and maybe under the bathroom at the rear. The rear end rot is what will ruin your day.

Amen to the rear rot ruining your day! Is the bathroom in the rear? Patching can be an easier fix. Replacing the whole subfloor is another matter entirely. Plenty of threads on that on here. Good luck and a hug.

Tell me about it. I thought I did good too but I found some rot by the rear wet bath of my 72 tradewind and this was the result.... I'm about finished putting in the new subfloor. Click image for larger version

Thank you all, I feel so much better about this! I have to say after spending endless hours cleaning it was bit frustrating that it had still smelled pretty musty. WELL now that I've cleared the muck from the belly, no odor which is (hopefully) an indicator that's the end rotty floor issues.
