Musicmaster I priced crossmembers and outriggers from factory at about $750 and had the main frame rails made by a friend for $150. Probably would have cost $400 for main rails by steel shop. A local welder quoted me $1000 to do all welding but got another friend to do it for free.

I live in Europe so can tell you the costs in Euro's. Material was 500 euro but without the outriggers, i ordered them in the usa, about 250 dollar. I had to pay 3000euro's including the welding and material so the welding about 2500 euro. The welder also removed and placed the axles.

Hi QC1500 Excellent looking frame. It is eerily similiar looking to mine. I see you made all the crossmembers the same height. How do you intend to reinforce the seams where the floor sheets meet?

Must have been a design change between the '73 and the '74 model. The '74 frame (like my '78 frame) is dead flat all the way down from front to back. The seam joints were simply butted together over the appropriate cross member and elevator bolted into place over the cross member with no plywood doubling under the joints.

The '78 has a 1/2" plywood floor and a super light frame similar to qc1500's original.

Congrats to qc1500 and any others replacing their too light frame with a more robust model.

I kept it flat all the way. There is no problem to bolt the floor into place.
I changed a few other small things but most things are the same, only stronger.

Today i build in the citywater tank, and fits perfectly. Only the waterline was broken because of frost i think, and that size isn't available in Europe so i fixed it with a hose.

qc,

Tell us about the vents in the underbelly. I have been considering this, perhaps with a couple of 12V 4" computer muffin fans for forced air ventillation. How many did you install?

I noticed that any water that could come in the underbelly, had no way out. So the frame had to rot...
First i will make sure that the change of water will be reduced to the minimum and hopefully none.
But at this way it can ventilate. The louvers are pointed backwards.
I placed one between every 2 crossmembers. I will place smaller ones at the left en right side of the bellypan. So i hope water will have no change to do damage again.
The vents have, i don't know who to call it in English but, stuff to keep insects away

Aluminum Frame

Nice work.

But I wonder why no one seems to make the frames with ALUMINUM?
The cost would not be that much more and the ability to carry more, or pull less weight, would be an advantage.

Shinning the underside would be a challenge though.
