Floor replacement - aluminium

I have a 2001 Safari with a soft floor at the front. No doubt rotten but have not pulled up the vinyl for an inspection yet - all too scary. Having had an aluminium livestock trailer for our cattle business, I was wondering if anyone had replaced their Airstream wood floor with an aluminium one. The livestock trailer stood many, many years of manure and urine so I am sure such a floor would be even better than marine grade plywood as a replacement.

It's not marine grade plywood under there but wafer board. Nothing special about it AT ALL.

Some of the small Argosy trailers in the 70's had an all aluminum floor in them. I think the experiment was focused more on dropping weight than to making them rot-proof.

If you hunt around a little, you will find several threads about alternative subfloor materials. Everything from poly-board to various forms of aluminum to highly "finished" plywoods.

I doubt if you want to do a shell-off in order to replace all of your floor, especially if you have only one soft spot. Step one is to stop the leak. Step two is to fix the floor with a patch.

good luck!
