jp, As to noise, my only experience had been with two older RV of the mid 70's. Both of these RV had roof top units, and both were very noisy. This unit is very cheep. It came from Wal Mart. It is considerable more quiet that the units I have experience in the past. Also being mounted under the bed units, I'm hoping that the mattress and blankets will absorb some of the noise. Time will tell because by the end of the month we will be embarking on a trip of 7 to 8000 miles, a real shake down cruise. Hopefull more pictures by tonight.

For louvered panels, have you tried a boat store like West Marine? They seemed to have a variety of polished stainless steel louvers when I was there, but maybe not in sizes big enough.

Louvered doors...

If what you want is a louvered door check out the following company:

All-Rite The RV Repair Parts Specialist

Check under products - compartment doors...

air conditioner installation

Here are some more pictures of the air conditioner installation under the bed in our Bambi.
1. Shows the compleation of the box for the air recirculation inside the trailer.
2. Shows the hot air exhaust side and the outside door that will be boxed in for the exhaust of the hot air.
The next 3 pictures show the construction of that box.

Looking good! I bet you'll really like having that cool air on your convoy!

I have wondered if we'll need to do something like this- even here in the summer it gets pretty warm in the trailer... I guess we'll find out this season!

Can't wait to see you guys - how's it going, planning to be gone for multiple months??!!

Just a quick note as a sidelight...

A few years ago we took our Teardrop to Omaha and back. 6 weeks in the little thing. We actually did fine. Don rigged a airconditioner for it too! We were soooooooo glad in the midwest we had cool sleeping quarters!

sequoiacoast, thanks for the positive response. The planning of the trip had been a lot of work. I've spent about 3 hours a day on planning since the beginning. The people who have e-mailed me with stops and ideas have been good. Responding to them and then making plans, where to stop, when to stop, etc, details details. It's been fun.
I think your trailer is new enough and strong enough to put an air conditioner on top. The Bambi was never really designed for that type of weight. Also the Bambi being as small as it is, an airconditioner on top looks like some kind of tumor on top. Just my weardness.

Yeah, I agree about the tumor-look. I don't really want one on top either, for both aesthetics and future leaks.. etc.

It will be interesting to see how hot we get this year!

I guess on way to deal with hot is always camp near water and swimming hole. At least the kids will keep cool. As a parent we all know, keep the kids happy and we are all happy.

Look Ma - no air conditioner

Well the installation is complete. I like the way it looks. You can't tell there is an air conditioner in the trailer when everything is closed up. I just hope it will work OK. I'll let everyone know while on our big trip. Also included in the pictures are two pictures of a outside step I'm making. A forum member we know had a great idea. So we took it and modified thier idea. They make a step box. When it's turned upside down and put on the floor of the trailer, It functions as another storage unit. I'm making ours in a curve. I had a reason why I was doing that, but it escapes me at the moment.
