Entry steps for '75 Argosy 24

The previous owner of my Argosy 24 managed to take off with the steps down and tore them off completely. There is not much in the way of collateral damage surprisingly enough but all that is left are two metal flanges dangling in the breeze. I stopped into an airstream dealer and they told me if they could find the original steps they would cost me about $600. Why is everything about $600? Am I better off replacing them with something aftermarket that is a close fit or is there some place I should look to find the real thing at a more reasonable price?

You can call around to RV salvage yards, one of them should have the parts you need to make your steps whole again.

Thanks,

I would certainly be interested, but not at a rediculous price like the factory wants. Please let me know.

Mmm, our step is missing a flanged washer/bushing on one side. It's been jury rigged and isn't very solid on that side when down. I was hoping that might be a part that was available. I guess the answer is "sure, we can order you one for $300." -Bernie

Steps

The last time I was at Airstream, The Bushings and bolts were $5.00 Ea.
You can buy the steps by the piece or as a unit. The unit includes the stringers.

I was at the Airstream dealer in Owasso, MI yesterday and they wanted $8 each for the bushings and bolts. Just an FYI.

A new aluminum footstep costs a little over $600.00.

You probably would need two footstep outriggers as well, which are extra.

Then you would need two footstep non-skid pads, which are extra as well.

Your footstep has alway been expensive.

Slightly related... my second step on the Argosy needs a new bolt ... the folding arm doesn't connect to the main step anymore. Is this bolt and bushing what I need? I thought it looked like a big rivet.

Any part number you can refer me too?
Andy, do you sell this?
Thanks!
Marc

Hey guys, I had to look up the part numbers for the bolts last fall. Take these part numbers to an Airstrean dealer and they can pull up the diagram from the computer. All of the step parts are still available. Kinda pricey, but available. You can find the part numbers here:

Hope this helps a little.
