Chassis Repair-stock parts or angle iron

I am in the midst of repairing the chassis on my 1985 Sovereign, specifically replacing six rusted outriggers.

I am inclined to purchase the outrigger pieces from Inland RV - however a welder has suggested removing the rust and welding angle iron in place of the outriggers once removed.

I welcome the money savings in purchasing materials from the local metal shop, the highest priority though is doing it right.

Any comments?

i formed my own out of some scrap 14ga galvanized metal. its just plain steel. don't over-think it.

I used channel iron, it worked out well, no waiting for parts, fast, easy, and done.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. How are you securing the shell to the frame in the pictures? Did you cut and leave the bolts and wood in the C-channel?
