Hey Lance that new floor is going to look great. I'm assuming that you are planning to use the MGP as a finish floor.
The drain tube for the A/C should go right down through the belly and hang a couple of inches below that. I think maybe yours suffered some sort of trauma to be that short. Maybe there was a tire failure that damaged the tube. Anyway make sure it is long enough to really clear the belly.

Error!
Well after talking with West system, it seems I've made an error in my stain choice as the Minwax is an oil based stain that West System epoxy will not adhere to. Water based stains work fine as do some oil based stains, but not Minwax.
EPOXYWORKS
Off to Sherwin Williams I go to have my water based stain mixed.

Hi Lance well now not only are you a card carrying member of the floor rot club but also a life time member of the frame rusting out organization. BTW memberships are now being accepted to the full monte club. The only dues are blood sweat and tears.
Are you planning to fab your own crossmembers and outriggers? If so might I suggest you beef them up with thicker steel and make them with wider flanges to attach the floor sheets and belly pan to.
Due think you can still make your March date for the repairs being done?
These trailers truly are an aluminium can of worms. Once you open them up it's amazing what you find.
Good luck my friend I'm watching and hopeing all goes well for you.
Chris.

Bought a welder at Killeen Welding and Supply and had some metal delivered. I should be ready to paint the repaired frame in a few days. I have more outriggers and crossmembers coming from Out of Doors Mart. It was nice the Army sent me to welding school for free back in the day.

holy sheetmetal batman!!! you went all out on that gas mig welder!! don't want to rain on your campfire, but, and this only my opinion, i would have bought just the Lincoln flux core welder that runs on 110V. the reason being, that if you are outside welding and the wind is blowing, it distorts your gas shield and gives a crappy weld. plus, you don't have to lug a gas bottle around. just my preference, but what a sweet setup you bought.!!!

Bruce,
Thanks for your opinion. The Hobart Handler 140 welder I got is 115V 20A flux core made by Miller. It was cheaper than the Lincoln of the same level. It comes with a gas regulator as standard equipment. The cylinder of gas was only another $85. I live in the 'burbs with houses shoehorned together with fences all around, so the wind isn't as much of a problem as it would be on the BWoodTX Ranch. I can always use the flux core wire if need be and lugging the cylinder around is good exercise.

It was such a beautiful day today in Texas. It was 75 degrees this afternoon. I got the last chunk of floor removed and cleaned up the frame between the axles. I sprayed the Eastwood rust converter in the area between the axles. I have to wait 48 hours for it to dry completely before I spray the rust encapsulator. Then the top coat goes on. I cut two of the floor sections before it got dark. Now its time to apply the water based wood conditioner in preparation for the staining.

Spent most of the day doing other things. It was HOT here today! Would you believe 84? The Eastwood rust converter got wet from the dew last night so ill have to reapply in a few areas. I have another down day tomorrow except for getting some metal and other supplies from Metals 4 U in San Antonio. I did manage to get two of the floor pieces stained with this Minwax water based stain this evening. Here's a pic.

Ordered new gray and black tanks from Ronco
Yesterday I managed to finally get my gray and black tanks on order from Ronco. I ordered three of their 17H 25 gallon tanks. I got the idea from bywaysteve's thread on his Ambassador. Thanks bywaysteve. Two gray one black. Their price just couldn't be beat. I sent my drawings to them depicting where I wanted the inlets and vents located. They promptly called me and we finalized everything. They said it would be 7 working days until they are ready to ship. I hope they are a good fit. I need to go to the local RV place and get all the plumbing I'll need for them on order.
That'll give us 50 gallons of gray and 25 gallons of black.

New Axis Axles ordered from Colin Hyde
Last night it snowed here in central Texas! It usually only happens once a year, so glad we got that out of the way. It was cold for a while this morning but I managed to get motivated and got back to work when the sun came out around 10:00 a.m. I have been kinda dragging my feet with getting the correct measurements to Colin at Colin Hyde Trailer Restorations for new Axis axles. Today I got it done. I took the wheels off of the rear axle and drug it out from under Abby.
I drilled a hole in two pieces of angle iron to bolt to the hub face for an accurate measurement.
Hub face to hub face was 80"
Bracket to bracket was 61 3/8"
Hub face to bracket was 9 1/4"
I cleaned up the original data plate.
I emailed the measurement sheet to Colin and then called him on the phone.
Axle Order Sheet.doc
It was not hard at all. Anyone with some mechanical sense at all can get the correct measurements. I can't wait to install the new axles when they arrive in a few weeks. Thanks for your help Colin!

Hey Lance I'm surprised you could get anything done in that "blizzard". Wow you must have almosta 1/8" of snow on the ground. LOL.
You're really going all out now. New axles, new floor and also grey and black tanks. That tank setup will give you plenty of waste storage. 25 gallons more than your fresh tank. Keep up the great work. It's all starting to come together.

Thanks WC,
A light dusting of snow here and EVERYTHING shuts down. It will be great to start re assembling the pieces. Tomorrow will be more frame repairs.

Frame repair angle iron ready to weld
Once again the weather in Texas is warm. It is great weather to be outside working on Abby. I've been cutting and prepping the 1 1/2" angle iron to weld in to the frame. I'm cutting them so they fit between three cross members. I've cut a notch out of the center to go over the cross members that are shorter where the plywood seams are. I'm filling the gap between the underside of the angle iron and the cross member with a small square piece of flat iron. I'm using the Eastwood chassis restorer system. On the new metal I'm using a phosphoric acid wash then the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and then two coats of their Chassis Black.
I beveled the edges of the angle iron so I can get better depth with the welder. Here's a picture of the frame ready to receive some support.
To make sure I have the frame straight and level before I weld, I'm supporting the shell with a 4X4 through the utility storage compartment holes.
I have this area that I need to rectify. After speaking with Colin Hyde on Friday, I went back to look closely at the area that he said '70s trailers were known to be weak. If you look closely at the axle mounting plate on the road side, you'll see that it is bowed out about 1/8th of an inch.
The frame is buckled a little bit in the same area.
This is right aft of the rear axle mounting location. Colin described it as a "fulcrum point" The chassis fabricators at Airstream did not weld the axle mounting plate correctly. There are no welds in the area of the plate that is bowed out.
I hope to get these repairs welded in this afternoon. Oh and I'm making some ribs today.
