I guess the availability of the different manufactures of insulation is regional. The RMAX is available here in 1/2 sheets only. I have never seen the 1" stuff. I am finding that most of the stuff they sell is for going under siding on a house. Finding thicker stuff can be a challenge. I thought about no insulation at all but decided to put a couple 1/2 layers in the side wrap areas that are not going to be easy to access later. I don't have any insulation between the frame members right now but it will be easy to add some later since the skins now bolt on. I like the foam with the aluminum radiation barrier like the stuff you used and the RMAX. It is like a combination of the foam R value and the heat reflecting qualities of the shinney bubble wrap stuff.

Good Job on all your rebuild work TOP. The good thing about doing all this stuff yourself is you know how to seal leaks and where they pop up. You also know how to fix what breaks.

The banana wraps on Abby were very dented and beat up. It really used to bother me how ugly they were.

After hours and hours of bumping, grinding, sanding the finished product turned out pretty good. It would be nice to have an English wheel sometimes. Although they are not perfect, I'm very happy with the results.

Thanks for the tip, Frank. Unfortunately, I'm all out of Waynes here in Nolanville. I'm getting better with these hammers. I would like a nice shot bag. Maybe for Father's day?

After I got the banana wraps and rub-rail trim on I sealed up the rivets from the inside. The only things left unsealed in the front U channel are the drain holes around the perimeter. Now for insulating.
Here is what the stinky, filthy, nasty, itchy fiberglass looked like before I threw it in the trash.

And here is a nice clean installation of 1" Dow TUFF-R polyiso insulation. All seams are taped with 3M aluminum foil tape. The insulation is flush with the inside of the ribs. That provides an airspace between the exterior skin and the insulation.

I'm not positive, but it seems to me that Abby has been to Alaska and back three or four times! The old Air Force Colonel and his wife must have had some awesome travels in Abby. I wish they had kept a travel log. That would be something cool to have for sure.

On this floor fairing (what does that mean, "fairing"?): If I have, which I do, gaps in the plywood sections for my rear floor replacement, is there something like a "backer rod" you could suggest before applying the "fairing"?? Like a flexible rope to squeeze in between before apply that floor stuff?? some of my gaps are too big I feel to apply the leveling stuff.

Really nice job on the banana skins and insulation by the way. In fact the whole job will stand up for quite a while for all of us jumping in to the same
boat ;-)

I don't know how deep or wide your gaps are, but if you mix the fairing compound and epoxy to a thick peanut butter consistency, it won't run or sag. All of your seams should be over a crossmember/outrigger or have a cleat under it so, I don't think a backer or plug would be necessary. Just closely follow the directions in the West System user manual.

I should have been done a week ago, but I'm not. We have been making progress. I say we because my oldest son, Scotty, has been helping me out. It is great to have a second pair of hands.
Before the insulation went in, I sealed all of the rivets from the inside with TremPro/VULKEM 626.

I don't want any water getting in.

This morning I finished the insulation in the walls. It is a bit tedious, but a few hours of work is a great trade to have high quality insulation that will not hold water. We left a small note for whomever is around to take her apart again. Hopefully it won't be me.


Next was to make a template out of builder's paper.



Tomorrow I'll cut it out and roll it up and put it in Abby through the front window. Then it will be time to lay the glue and roll it.

Today was the day for Abby to get her new Marmoleum installed. After cutting the sheet from the template, we rolled it up and placed the sheet through Abby's front window.

Then we carefully unrolled the sheet and did a little cleaning to make sure there wasn't any little specs of dirt or debris.

Then I troweled on the glue and rolled and rolled and rolled. Did a little clean up and here is how she looks.

There isn't really too much left to finish. Just put in the lower curtain tracks, gaucho and credenza. I should have everything all done by tomorrow afternoon. Then it will be time to bring Abby back home and get her packed up for our long summer trip.

There is only about two or three feet on the CS near the door and galley cabinet that I might use some cove moulding if I can find some nice matching gold anodized color. I'll be using a threshold that Soldiermedic gifted me for the transition from the kitchen to the back part of the trailer.
