I got some work done today. I put down two coats of spar varnish on the flooring under the heating duct yesterday. I wraped the heat duct with Reflectix and taped it all up with aluminum foil tape. I cleaned up the water pump and re installed it. Then finished the rest of the plumbing.

First pressure check complete. Baseman wins the prize! I had two leaks. Both on plastic threaded fittings. One on the water pump outlet and one on the water filter outlet. I removed the new female fitting and spliced in the old plastic compression fitting. I just had to tighten up the filter outlet. I'm happy to report not one leak on any of the Viega fittings. I decided not to install the water heater winterization bypass valving. Just got finished before it was time to leave for my daughter's National Junior Honor Society ceremony. Hopefully the paint shop is done with the bathroom pieces tomorrow. Oh and the GFCI pops when the A/C compressor kicks in. It was 95 degrees here today. Too hot to not have A/C. Grrrrr

That's a great idea to insulate the heating ducts. mind if I steal the idea?
It's starting to look really crowded under the galley cabinet nowthat it's all going back together.
I can't wait to see how the bath parts turned out.
Can you plug the a/s in to a non GFCI outlet?

Thanks for you faith in my ability to do it right. OK OK, You get honorable mention! But actually, the fitting that I installed to connect to the water pump is a Viega fitting. It just would not seal without the rubber insert that is required. I thought it would seal up, but I was wrong. I used the same fitting on the city water inlet. No leaks there. I did not use the plastic fitting supplied with the city water inlet. Puzzling.

Of course you can steal the heating duct insulating idea. Not like I have the patent on it Not really my idea. I looked at the link you posted above. They have some nice two inch ducts. I plan on using two lengths of 2" duct from where I terminated the original duct through the access area to the bath room heater outlet. Reflectix makes a roll of the insulation just for round duct wrapping.

I have her plugged in to the only 20a circuit in our house. A kitchen outlet. All the others (non GFCI) are 15a and won't run the A/C.

Today after a morning at the Muganga, I got all the plumbing in order. I spent more than one hour sanding down the cold water inlet for the galley sink to get the compression fitting to go on. The pipe must have frozen and swelled at one time. When I was finished with that I put water to her and she was dripping at the water pump strainer and the water pump inlet. So I went to the local RV place and got a new strainer. I had to go to two places to get the original barb fittings. I managed to get it all done and installed before supper. I did a leak check of the propane system and found one fitting leaking. It was just loose. Tightened it up. No more leaks. I fired up the water heater. Hot water is good. I still need a few clamps for the plumbing. Hopefully the bathroom stuff will be done tomorrow.

Thanks Steve. I wouldn't have minded having some comic relief when I was struggling to get the plumbing under the sink done today in the 100 degree heat with no A/C. Maybe I would have been comic relief for you guys!?

Man Top, your work is looking really good! Dont know why you ever thought about trying to hire someone to do the plumbing.
Might have ended up like my first floor job when I hired someone to do it to save time and ended up doing it myself.
Great job, I know you got plenty of feathers in your hat but it never hurts to add another....LOL. Keep it up camping is not far in your future.

Thanks JSand Vernon. You are probably right JS. I don't think I've ever felt that someone I've paid to do work for me did it better than I can. I'm happy to have done the plumbing. Now when something goes wrong, I can't get mad and start cussing! I only have myself to blame and thank!

Mr paint shop guy gave me the song and dance today. My bathroom stuff still is not painted.
I worked on a few things in preparation of putting the bath together. I went looking for 5/32" 1/2" grip pop rivets. None can be found around here. Fastenal had some but they were only 1/4" grip. Too short for what I need. Maybe I'll go to Waco or Austin tomorrow while Mr paint shop guy splatters some paint. I did get the toilet closet flange installed. I used a 12"x12" 18ga 301 Stainless support plate under the flange.

Mornin' Top. I've been reading thru your thread and remembering my trip down this road. You're doing a fabulous job, keep it up!

I think I have one of those cutting boards out in the garage someplace (and lots of other stuff, as well). We don't intend to use it. It's yours if you want it.

Yesterday morning Mr paint shop guy called me to tell me that my goods were ready. I promptly went there and picked them up. They look pretty darn good. No more yellowing cream colored plastics for Abby. I got busy with installing the tub first. I had a small problem with the tum drain P trap. It had been crossed threaded before and the mating flare was all boogered up. I should have inspected it more closely when I removed it. I have gotten mad at the mechanics in our hangar so many times for not performing a visual inspection when a part is initially removed from the aircraft. I should know better. I went to Lowe's to get a new one. They had an empty box at that location. After asking for help from three separate employees, I finally found one that spoke "plumber"! She looked in the computer. There wasn't a P trap hiding in the computer either. So, I grabbed a PVC P trap and some ABS couplings and off I went. I managed to shave some of the burrs on the old P trap and got it to seal finally! I got the shower all hooked up and functional. I wanted to make sure I got it checked for leaks before I started riveting the parts together. I managed to get a few of the pieces put together before calling it a night. Hopefully I can get the under sink cabinet and sink installed today. The plastic laminate pieces are very brittle and not what you'd call durable at all. It takes some time to repair all these little cracks and dings.

Thanks JS, For what it cost, $579, it should look like new. I think they look pretty good. Unfortunately, under the new paint is old plastic. This stuff is a PITA to rivet back into place. I should be able to wash my hands in the sink and flush the toilet by tomorrow evening.

Lance that will be much better than the other way around. It will certainly involve a lot less kneeling.

Seriously though they do look great and so does the A/C cover. Your cover is different than mine. It is one piece and mine is a two piece unit. I would suggest a screen set up like I did to keep the debris out. Mine was chock full of crap when I took off the original one.

Thanks Chris. I plan on using some kind of screen over the fan. Just haven't figured out what exactly.

Today I got a fairly early start. Then I had to pick up my daughter from a sleep over and take her to Guitar Center to get some new strings for her guitar. I also made a trip to Lowe's for some more flexible hose from the city water inlet to the pex plumbing. There was too much interference with the routing of the hoses. The under sink cabinet would not fit properly. It took a bunch of sweating, cussing and grunting, but I did manage to get the whole bath surround installed and plumbed. The sink works!


I have most of the trim installed in the bath. I sealed the joints with Trempro 644 white silicone RTV. I then sealed the top of the trim piece with the same RTV after it was installed. I attempted to install the white insert that goes into the trim extrusion. I lubed it with some soapy water and pushed it in as far as I could. I could only get about two feet to go in before it stopped sliding. I jacked around with it for about an hour or so, pushing, pulling, cussing and grunting to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It isn't going to stop me from finishing this, but I'd eventually like to have the proper trim insert installed.

I know I thought I'd have the toilet installed, but I am missing one of the flange bolts. I should have checked to see that I had all the proper parts before leaving for Lowe's. It is one of those maintenance management "P"s I preach to Soldiers about.
