Food is an art form around here! My wife is Italian, so we have a nice mix of Italian and American food.

I got the insulation from the local lumber yard. They had to order it from the wholesaler in Dallas. There was a minimum order of 22 sheets. It was a bit pricey at $24 per sheet, but I think it is worth it. I read a lot of threads on insulation here. I chose polyiso because it is what Frank uses at Frank's Trailer Works as well as Brett from Timeless Travel Trailers. It is relatively easy to install on flat surfaces, but takes some geometrical wizardry for curved sections. Attached is the product info sheet. I think the best thing about it is that it doesn't hold water.

Plumber! Can I get a plumber over here?

Well, let's see. Where was I? Oh right. Plumbing.
I have decided to install all new Pex plumbing with Viega fittings in Abby. No biggie right? I'm kinda getting crunched for time so I figured I'd hire out the plumbing job to have a professional job and save some time. I figured that I'd call a few plumbers and see where that would get me. Three of the four plumbers I called actually came out and looked at Abby's plumbing needs. The first was a very large plumbing company here in town. They took a day to show up and two days to call me back with a quote of "between $750 and $950". Plumber number two was actually a mobile RV repairman. He said he was pretty busy and asked if I could call him later. I never called him back. I don't think I should have to call more than once. Plumber number three showed up and looked around and said he had never heard of Viega fittings, but he would use compression fittings. He said he would give me a call later that evening. That was Monday afternoon. I haven't heard from him since. After all this I went to the plumbing supply place here in town to just but the tools and parts and do it my damn self! I was giving the list of things I thought I'd need to the guy at the counter. He gave me a few raised eyebrows and explained things to me. While I was there at the counter, plumber number four was listening in to my explanation of why I was doing it myself. He said he could help me. He gave me his card and said to give him a call if I needed anything. Even just an answer to a question I may have. He went on his way to fix a sewer line or something. So the guy behind the counter totaled up the supplies and tools that I thought I'd need and it came to about $450. I thought about it and decided to give plumber number four a call to come have a look. He came this afternoon and said it would be around $750. He also would guarantee his work as long as he was still alive. He said he'd be here tomorrow at 0900. I hope he can get it done in a day.

Tuesday I cleaned and reinstalled the belt line trim. That was a chore. I had been putting it off because I knew it was going to be a PITA. I used some 5/32nd closed end rivets from Fastenal. I'm not too impressed with their performance. I sealed the upper part of the trim with Sonolastic NP1. I used some regular 3/16th pop rivets where I needed extra grip length. It was a chore, but it's done now.

Yesterday I went to SA to see the Muganga. While I was there I saw Soldiermedic. He gifted me some nice things he said I'd be likely to use. Thanks Steve!
Earlier this morning I went to the body shop where the plastic bath components are getting painted. I took the toilet over to him to color match. I also took the A/C shroud to be painted silver. I have a few pics of the pieces ready to paint. They should be ready on Monday.

Nice progress. Glad you are going to be able to use the stuff I gave you, and can't wait to see some of it in use.

That floor is beautiful. Your thread helped us. We had only the ugly beginnings of separation, but decided to "nip it, nip it in the bud," to quote Barney Fife! LOL

Luckily everything was still securely attached to still solid frame. Whew.

You sure do good work! Thanks for letting us learn as we follow along.

I can't believe the price of the pex and fixtures you got... you should PM pbearsailer (Steve)... he did all his Pex himself with a crimper... I don't think he paid that much. Another thought is to rent the crimper for a couple of days? I have to admit that copper doesn't seem so expensive now! I cheaped out with cpvc about 8 years ago... still works fine.

Glad it's all finishing up soon!

Pex Plumbing

If price were no object, would copper be the best choice? I have used CPVC and copper in homes, and I always feel like I took a short-cut when using the CPVC, even though it has held up just as well as the copper.

Top, In the picture of your back bumper (post #243), it looks like there is a gap between the body and the bumper storage area cover. Did you find a solution to the water issue at the back bumper (where water flows back onto the plywood)?

Thanks Marc! I think I'm in the "committed" stage now.

LawChick,
Thanks so much. I hope you have safe and enjoyable travels this summer.

Bauxter,
I'm not a plumber, so I think that my opinion on if copper is a better choice than pex isn't worth much. I know it takes a lot more labor hours to install copper than pex. Maybe a master plumber will be able to help.
My plan with the bumper storage compartment is to leave a 1/4" gap for water to run down the back of the trailer and into the storage compartment. When I put the rearhold down plate under the floor I filled the groove and attachment surfaces with 3M 560 polyurethane adhesive sealant. There should be no way that water can get between the rear hold down plate and the sub floor unless I failed to properly seal everything. I am modifying the floor of the bumper storage compartment with drainage holes from a wide 6" strip of perforated sheet aluminum. I'll post pics of it when I complete it in the next few days.

Angry Guess I'll do it myself

Well, plumber number four did not show up at 0900 as he said he would. He didn't call to say he would be late. Nothing. I waited until 0950 and gave him a ring. I got his voice mail. I politely told him don't bother with coming over to plumb my trailer. I'll do it myself. It is very frustrating. I have wasted a whole week on trying to have a "pro" do the plumbing. Always learning!

Just got back from the plumbing supply store. Here is what $570 of plumbing supplies look like. I'm using Viega Pure Flow fittings with Fostapex tubing.

Hi Top,

It's always good to have a second pair of eyes, and I could also learn something from helping you with your plumbing. If you'd like a hand, let me know. It's just a short drive up there from Round Rock, and I do need to put some miles on my truck!

Thanks for the offer Dave. I wouldn't mind some help. I'll send you a message. Maybe Steve could even get in on the action. He has also offered to help many times.

I'm very much feeling better and have been given a clean bill of health.

I've been easing back into 'life' over the last couple of months - it feels good, let me tell you!

Pex is moving along at a quick pace. If it hadn't rained earlier I'd be nearly finished. I wish I'd have bought this stuff last Friday.
