Even though we've owned this Airstream for a few weeks this is only the third day I have actually worked on it. So it gives us a realistic estimate of time spent on work. Today I focused on on removing bolts and screws from the C-channel and taking out rotted plywood and nasty insulation. Mouse deposits were plenty, yuck

Frame looks pretty good. Mostly surface rust. I did find some corrosion. This is the C shaped frame running amidships forward section of RV. The web is okay but the top of the C is corroded, looks like it began around the elevator bolts. Also the angle running perpendicular to that piece will have to be replaced. Most likely I will replace the entire C channel and both angle pieces. I might even pay somebody to cut the elliptical holes in the C shaped frame.

Forward starboard outrigger has corroded through at the top of the web probably started around the elevator bolt, seeing a trend here.

Aft end has tranverse angle braces that are lower than the rest of the frame. For some reason this section had two layers of plywood. Since these angles were welded lower to allow for the second sheet I suppose this is stock. I will need to allow for this in my Nyloboard purchase.

Unless you're concerned about weight, you really only need the elliptical holes where plumbing will run through. New steel C will definitely be heavier than those original formed supports, but you can probably make up for it elsewhere. Removing a really heavy sink and other heavy original components in mine more than made up for the weight increase from the new steel I put into the frame.

Good point. Hey you ever have one of those nights where you can't sleep and you just keep working out Airstream details in your head....yeah that was last night. Wish I had sketched them out on paper.

Absolutely. Just about every night since I bought mine, almost two years ago. And quite a few before I even owned one...

If it is the same as my 65 an 8' strip of ply fits in this space and is a cleat to tie the butt joined sections together.Steve

Ok I'll probably make a mess with this but here we go A and B the fridge and its vent, C stove or furnace access E water heater F storage access and D is your one stop super duper service center, so you can access battery, toilet, univolt, plumbing, etc.etc. Go to "www.vintageairstream.com" click on archives, and find overlander, lots of pics of original units. From your vin find out if your a CA or Ohio coach and compare.
Your clock in the overhead cabinet : is it a/c d/c or battery? Mine is gone I wondered what the original was.

Thanks for the panel identification Kevin. I don't know what the clock runs but I will take a look and get some good close up photo's for you. I also still have the original 'Airstream' brand AM/FM radio in that cabinet on the other side. It is pointed strait down, I guess you would have to sit in that seat and crane your neck up to adjust the radio. It looks like the Delco Radio I had in my 56 chevey years ago.
