1972 31' Sovereign frame drawings

Anyone out there have a set of drawings for the frame in a 1972 31' Sovereign? Any idea where I can get them?

Are any of you building new frames rather than repairing the rusted originals?

Thanks..

No drawings that I have ever seen. I'm sure they exist somewhere.

Daniel B had a new frame built.

Thanks Top - would the 1974 31' Excella 500 frame be the same as mine?

As far as I know, yes. Maybe a few slight differences with the Excella having a few extras like a generator and hose reels. Most people just make an exact copy of their old frame after they remove the shell from the floor/chassis.

Basically the frame are the same for all 31fters in or around the same year. The crossmember locations will be different depending on if your's is a rear or center bath.
74's and up have grey water tanks which will again affect crossmember location.
Daniel and I both have centerbath models with grey tanks so our frames will be a little different than your 1972 31fter.
I do have a pictoral in my sevice manual but it doesn't give any dimensions. I could scan it and post it for you here if you like.

Darkspeed,

I made this drawing of Little Girl's frame. Does that help? It's to scale, and fairly accurate (to within 1/4" I'd say). Close enough for what I needed it for. I could add other dimensions on it if you need them.

Thanks guys thats a big help!

I go tomorrow to see her for the first time and assess the frame rot.

I have already psyched myself up to build a new frame from scratch, so my goal is to keep her in one piece long enough to get her home.

75 Excella

Good Morning All.

We have a 75 Excella, 90% original interior. It has been sitting for a couple of years in the driveway, and this spring we are going to start on the restoration. The floors are very spongy, so I really want to replace the plywood. I am not sweating the actual work involved, just the proper way to do it. A few years ago, I found a website that had pictures of a similar job, showing how to remove the body, which rivets to drill out, and sequence of steps needed. I have been poking around, but I can't find that site anymore. If someone could post some info on what needs to happen, or links to any personnel sites showing body-off repairs, I would really appreciate it. I will of course keep searching these forums sites for info.
Thanks!

Any disadvantage to using a taller frame rail section and higher load axles when building a new frame - besides the issue of extending the banana wrap.

I was thinking of making room for two low center of gravity battery boxes to go with a solar array.

Chris, what is the "Spline" shown in your drawings near the wheel well?

Thanks...

Here's a copy of the 1974 Service Manual exploded view of the chassis and related parts, along with the page giving the descriptions.

I doubt if there is much difference between your '72 and this. The only exception I know of is that your unit has no gray tank.

Thanks Aage,
I received my two eBay books on mini cd last week and they have been a big help. I was trying to figure out what he was calling a spline as I did not see any corresponding structure on the factory drawings in the books.

I don't know what a "spline" is either, so if you found out, please tell us? But it you didn't, might be the time to ask...

The Spline is the 4" wide piece of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed underneath the seams of the plywood floor. They are item 22 on the diagram Aage posted. I marked them on the drawing for a couple of reasons:

Those frame cross members are 3/4" lower than the other ones to accommodate the splines.

They mark where the seams in the plywood floor are.

I wanted to remember where they were when I was planning out gray tank locations since they are wider than the frame cross members.

I saw a post where there was a pdf file of "little girl frame" and was wondering if you have the cad file and willing to share? I have autocad 2019 and able to modify to my 1968 Land Yacht Ambassador. I currently have the trailer at the shop getting the axels replaced and I know we have to do some reframing if not the whole frame. Thank you in advance, here is my e-mail just in case. roman.hernandez.jr@gmail.com

I made the original file in Visio 2007, so not a cad file. Sorry.
