Thanks, I think we could all say we should have replaced more panels etc. I have definitely done my share of patches.

Hello all been a little while since my last post. I have been absorbed in other stuff, not a lot of time to spare on the trailer. But I have managed to squeeze a couple days in here and there. I have been stuck on the 12v wiring. I have been searching the forums for re wiring pictures, led sources, and stories. Any one??

Hi-I'm still grinding away on the 1967 Sovereign 30, am doing wiring now, using all led's-if you have any questions feel free to ask, (christiansnaples@aol.com) I'm fairly familiar with the systems, this is the third (and last) Airstream rebuild I'm doing. Good luck, Rolland

Thanks Mr Green ,I'm still in the fight. I would love to see any and all of the info and or pictures that you have. I am going with puck lights in the interior. I am not 100% solid on the layout so placing switches lights and wires is a little hard. Then there are the questions "Do I want this light to turn on and off at the switch panel or independently?" "How many lights on this circuit?" "12v cigarette plugs?"... etc. 1200 Euro? Is that close to $2000 US?

Get on it Javier! Every year in the driveway is a year of missed camping. Seriously though - life can get in the way of this hobby pretty fast. Good luck with the finish work.

Am finishing the 12v wiring this week-All led light bulbs in the old style fixtures. I used a circuit breaker strip with a bunch of 12v automotive style self resettable breakers as my main 12v positive buss bar, and a old ground buss bar out of a home breaker box for the 12v negative side. Mounted these on a board inside the side compartment where the 12v wiring terminates. Each 12v circuit has its own breaker. Also mounted the battery charger and solar regulator in there, and hooked everything, including the wiring from the battery to the two buss bars. The extension cord I fabricated for the solar panel also lives in this side compartment. There are 12v lighter type power outlets in the bathroom, kitchen, and above the front window in the stereo compartment. Have not decided if I really want to permanently mount an inverter, but if I do it will probably reside in this compartment also. In the mean time can plug it or the phone chargers into the power ports. The positive 12v dc line from the tow vehicle goes through the pigtail directly to the battery, and there is a breaker for this under the hood. The positive line for the electric jack comes directly from the battery(it has it's own breaker) and a ground wire from the battery is connected to the frame at the jack as well as to the buss bar in the side compartment. The 12v negative (ground) from the tow vehicle pigtail is connected to the frame, and to both antennas, as well as a variety of lights mounted on the aluminum skin, (all led) so I will not have grounding problems with the running lights. For the AC 110v I mounted a house type square D breaker box in the rear compartment, because that is where all the 110v AC terminates. I added more lines and receptacles from this breaker box for all the high draw outlets that I installed (Air conditioning/electric heat, convection oven, battery charger) so I would not overtax the original aluminum wiring. The original wiring was good but most of the receptacles were bad so I replaced them. Also installed extra double breakers so can add extra circuits if needed. 110 Vac only, no main breaker, so don't need 220 V or 50 amp hookup. Trying to keep everything as inexpensive and simple as possible. Hope this helps someone, feel free to ask any questions, am happy to help. Haven't posted any pictures lately because am trying to finish and get out of here with the trailer before the weather window closes in New Mexico for the year. Happy Trails! Rolland 5953 (By the way, if you can't figure out what a wire was used for: Aluminum wiring with a black wire, white wire and ground in a white covering is 110V AC. Aluminum Wiring in a white covering with only a black wire and a white wire is 12v DC. Wiring with a black covering is thermostat wiring. Learned this the hard way, someone cut all the wires off before I bought the trailer!)

Will take a couple now-#12 wire will work fine, but use a lot heavier for the mains and from the battery- Click image for larger version

ID:	220079 remember, the lower the voltage and higher the draw, the heavier wire you need. I put everything 12v in the compartment behind the rear wheel on the road side, also put a led switched light in there so could see what I'm doing. Front view is buss bars and charger-Rear is solar regulator and connections. Click image for larger version

ID:	220080 I put the battery in a later model salvaged battery box mounted forward as the photo shows, bringing the weight further forward. Used a aluminum rear bumper and made both tanks from aluminum to reduce the rear bath weight too.

ID:	220086working feverishly on the inside now. The antenna tucks down out of the way nicely-made a new wall to the left of the door and hung the little flat screen on it-A/C is where the oven used to be, vents out the refrigerator vent and another vent through the floor in front of the wheel-Jury is not in on that one yet. Convection oven on counter behind TV, Nancy doesn't like microwaves. 2 burner gas countertop next to sink.

Should have said the 14 will work for most, but use heavier for any heavy or constant draw

I have one, but send most stuff as answers to other threads questions-have about 100 photos of the process, maybe should put on my thread. I find the I-pad much easier to use to post and attach.

Thank you so much!! I am using 12/2 romex for the 110v 8/2 for the main and 6 awg for the batteries as well as the pre wire for future solar. I think most people are a bit shy about sharing their re wiring pics so I appreciate it.

You are quite welcome-you could use 12/2 for the 12v too-I Don't mind sharing, I too look at and read everything I can, there is not a lot out there on these older rigs. Just have to get this one on the road before I am to old to get on the road!
