I'm now the 'new' owner of a 1978 Airstream!

First off, thanks for all the help and answering my questions about buying an Airstream. I got the title today and promply celebrated by going and buying four new tires. 1978 International Ambassador 28'. Weighed all the options and finally went with my heart. Let the games begin. Will post a lot of pictures.

Thanks for all the comments and welcomings. Poor thing has been sitting by the marsh for eight years and not opened or used. Know rust will be one of my problems, I mean opportuinities. The site is beautiful. Spent an extra hour out there just watching the grass wave.

First major project should be weather proofing the trailer.
Most likely, all the exterior gaskets have cracks in them, especially the sewer vent pipe cover gaskets that last only 2 to 3 years.

If your going to travel with the coach, make sure the running gear is ok. Being parked for a long time, is not a good thing. Check the wheels, as they could be rusty, especially on the back side. Check out the suspension system. There is an article in the Airstream Central part of this Forums, that will teach you how to do that in 30 seconds.

Has someone painted a part of your Airstream?

The road side lower panel looks so different from the rest of the trailer.

64Stream: The "grass" I was watching was the marsh. The trailer is on a private island overlooking the marsh. Sunsets are beautiful. Savannah gets snow. It snowed for three hours. I made a 3 inch snowperson. It was gone in the morning.
Andy: Do not think it has been painted. There are several panels on which the plasticoat is still entact. Thanks for your offers. Sure I'll be bending your ear.
Bill: Sorry this was the only heading for a younger Ambassador. Others have posted their messages here. Maybe the subforum should be "75 and younger"?
Others: Thanks for all the well wishes. Recall that I talked about the trailer all during dinner with friends. Worse than a new parent or even a grandparent!
Spent 5 hours cleaning up and out the trailer. Found few surprises. Very little evidence of critters after 8 years of being closed up. Missing about 20 interior rivets. No power or water. Can't wait to clean the green mold off the outside. Am documenting all with pictures.
