tips on buying first airstream

I am looking at an airstream soveriegn 1977 which I want to buy. I have no experience of the airstreams. Can anyone provide me with an idiots guide of things to look for and any common faults which might be evident.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the Airforums, Tim... Here's a link to a buyer's guide sub-forum that will give you some pointers... http://www.airforums.com/forums/f353/

If you have more questions, just ask!

Good luck!

Wellcome to the forum, wealth of info here from many very experienced AS users, (myself not included). This said, IMHO, one of the first things to check for, is to make sure the floor is solid, with no signs of water intrusion around the perimeter, where shell joins floor. Also check to see if floor is straight inside, along it's length, ie., not humped in area over axles, this can be a clue for a sagging frame, even if the outside frame to shell area looks good.

Noting your location, are planning on towing it, or just parking and enjoying it somewhere? This changes matters considerably.

Has this trailer already had all of the necessary conversions to make it legal to tow in the UK & Europe?
