No I'm not out yet, but I'll say I'm really getting tired.
I had number 3 located and called and waited per sellers instructions and someone else beat me to it......
The seller did what they had to of course but I just don't know what else to do unless I get a souped up car with a trunk full of cash, GPS and not let off until I roll into the sellers driveway........OH, I guess I'll need a tow hitch on that car.......
The sales go to the fast and the lucky. We saw or '77 on ebay at 8:00AM, left to look at it at 10:00 with cash in our pocket. When we hitched up, the seller had to call the #2 person and tell them to turn around and go home. The '91 we just bought, the wife saw it on craigslist a few days after posting. We were the 2nd person and persistant.

Hi, this just means that you are back in line for your turn at the bat again. Who knows, you might hit a homer this time. Keep swinging and eventually you will get a hit.
Your 'stream will come. We missed out on a couple too but are wildly happy with our Tex! I jumped on a Craig's List add and was persistent too. Good luck!

Robbie- I feel your pain. I missed 2 before finally catching mine. I used http://www.searchtempest.com/ to find mine. It searches all the Craig’s List sites within a distance you set. I happened to check it one day while waiting for a plane, and found one that met my parameters. I called and happened to be the first to call, the post was made by the PO on craigslist about an hour before I called. I was able to get them to hold it for me for inspection, and drove the 3 hours on a Saturday morning with wife in tow. Yes, had to carry a cashiers check with an amount under the asking price, and carry some additional cash in case he was firm. I offered to send them a deposit via snail mail to hold, but they said it wasn't necessary (it is a bit risky, but you have to take a chance and put some trust in man sometimes).
You will find one, you just have to be patient, and search Craigslist and other sites several times daily. A little bit of luck helps too. It took me 9 months of searching to find mine....

The cost of travel and inspection needs to be factored into the cost of purchase.
To get what you want you WILL need cash, be able to travel as soon as you spot an advertisement, and have an immediate way to get it out off of the sellers property.
Good buys last only a day or so, great buys last even a shorter time.
If a you find a unit you really want be prepared to jump on a plane, rent a car at the destination to travel to the seller, and PAY CASH to finalize the transaction.

Your tactic so far has been to look for the trailer out there in the dog-eat-dog world.
Try the OPPOSITE and see what happens. Place your own "Airstream Wanted" ads on bulletin boards, in newspapers, on classified websites and anywhere else you can think of. Someone out there is thinking about selling a nice trailer and just might call your ad before they run their own ad. If that happens - you get the call first and have no competition for the trailer!
Another outside the box idea is to offer a 'reward' for information leading to a trailer purchase. If someone called me and said their neighbour was talking about selling, and was able to put me in touch with them, I would gladly pay them $250.00 for the referral if I bought the trailer!
Many people procrastinate about selling because they don't like the hassle of all the phone calls, waiting around for a buyer to show and non-serious tire kickers. You can make it easier for them!
GOOD LUCK!

You sure are right about this. Whenever I sell I hate dealing with all the "crazies" that seem to come from every direction.
