Lightbulb quick silly question!

hello there everyone!

im new to this airstream forum.. im interested in buying a airstream very shortly, the one i was looking at was a 1977 31 foot soverign with a middle bath not the rear.

my question! what is the difference between the 1977 31" soverign, 1977 31" excella and the 1977 31" land yacht or international?

is the window layout different?

thanks a million.

Each was built to a different trim level and floor plan. The basic trailer, frame, axel, brakes, tires and tanks were all the same. The number and type of windows also changed. A 1977 is now 33 years ols and none of that counts now. More important is the general condition of the trailer and all the gear in it. Do you like it? Is it in good shape? Can you fix the problems? If you said yes three times; get the trailer.

Even with a mid bath, you still need to look for outrigger problems. Make sure the interior divider partitions are not pushing through the interior roof. Also check the axles closely to be sure they still have a not sagged and that they still move easily. They should deflect if you stand on the rear bumper and move downward, if the trailer is jacked up.

Eoin,

Most of the time it a name designates the size of the trailer. For example in 1977 you have:

The specifics of this year and others can be found here:
http://www.vintageairstream.com/archives/index.html

Apparently the Excella was introduced as a more luxurious version of the 31 foot Sovereign: "It is a 31' Sovereign with all the bells and whistles, luxury features, and special trim. It is the first Airstream model to come with a gray water waste tank."

All Airstreams are called Land Yachts and if it's an International it came with options that you would need to be self-contained for boondocking... See:

Airstream, Inc :: Specs - 1970

floor plans

All the regular line 1977 Airstreams floorplans are shown in this illustration. Everything from 21' to 31' was a Land Yacht. The International option was an add-on "kit" available when the trailer was purchased new.

I can't find anything for the Excella models, sorry.
