Question about missing VIN #

I went and looked at an Overlander yesterday and it's great! I really want to buy it however the VIN plate and been removed and the guy selling it has a bill of sale without a VIN number.

I hate to pass up this Airstream. Is there any way to title this trailer without a VIN?

Thanks in advance,
Heather

it is impossible to title something with out a vin number, that is correct. You can however go to your BVMS and they can reissue you one. I have twice now seen trailers with BMVS plates with a new vin numbers. The serial number is on the tongue, on the street side, usually right under the LP rack. Often hard to find, but it is there...

Heather pass on it w/o a vin or title you will spend a lot of time money and effort and end up with a title stating that the trailer is a home built. it will never be titled as an airstream again. It's also a good chance the trailer is stolen and that's why the vin is missing

Depending on the year of the trailer, the serial number is also stamped into the"A" frame, on the door side of the LPG bottle rack.

Posting a photo or 2 will help ID at least what year it is.

Welcome Aboard....

No title=no sale.

Have to ask the question..why? Stolen?
Even a salvage title has a vin#

Too good to be true, too true to be good.

If you can find the VIN# on the tongue, have it checked before doing anything.

It is a real PITA clearing a title for registration, BTDT.

Heather - my trailer has the proper VIN but it was titled incorrectly years ago when it came into the state of Colorado. One of the digits is incorrect on the title.

I can tell you that this scenario is far less daunting than yours and it has taken me about ten hours of my time and it's still not resolved! If you take this on, put aside some time and be prepared for frustration.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your help. After hearing your thoughts, most everyone believes at one time it was stolen. We have walked away from that....too bad we didn't know before we drove an hour to go see it.

Looking at a 1973 Land Yacht on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

Thanks again for your helpful feedback.

Thumbs up

Heather,
"..too bad we didn't know before we drove an hour to go see it."

Just remember how fun the anticipation was for 59min.

Don't fret there's one out there that will find you.

Sweet Streams...

Bob
