what is the no-sales tax rule?
also can i save some $$$ buy picking up at factory instead of some delivery charges in the thousands? (good excuse for the first trip too...)

thanks!
The Airstream factory does not sell RV's to anyone except dealers.

Purchased my Airstream from Colonial in New Jersey and drove it back to San Diego myself - great trip. Now I'm back on the East Coast for a while....

Any hoots - I could have paid Colonial to ship it back West to me and still received a better price than Irvine - and the guys at Colonial Know Their Stuff!!!

What happened to Fred? When I bought in '05 Fontana seemed to be a busy place. The buying experience was good. Never went back for service, didn't need to, did my own minor warranty work.

Fred is a "VERY" smart and clever person.

He saw the hand writing on the wall and closed his dealership down, so that he didn't have to lose a ton of money.

Best I remember, his dealership has been gone for more than a couple of years.

I have chatted with him, and at least according to our last conversation, he may quite well be back.

He has always been a great asset to the Airstream family and the RV industry.

My experience with Fred was very good. I enjoyed dealing with him during my Airstream purchase.

Skyriver just opened a lot in Pismo Beach, CA that had about a dozen Airstreams on it as of last weekend, and I think they had more to move over. Dave at Toscano's in Los Banos, CA will be hard to beat on price. At Area 63 Productions, his name is Uwe, and he does fantastic work restoring & customizing vintage trailers and is a long time member here.

Any opinions on Inland RV's repair work?

There are only two names that come up in SoCal: C&G and Inland RV.

If you don't mind me asking, what went wrong with C&G?

We just picked up our 2010 Flying CLoud from C&G for an AC roof leak repair. They were nice enough but odd location; main thing is we have not had a chance to see if it is truly fixed or not yet--it's been stored under cover during all the recent rain. I will let you know what we find out in April when we set out for three weeks of use!

I was very satisfied with Inland's work last June. They replaced axles, univolt and replaced the vacuum disc brake actuator, fixed a drain pipe leak and replaced all exterior mouldings and they did the job well.

We have had an excellent experience at C&G over the years. It is unusual now a days to find a company that works so hard to do a good job.

They proudly display the award they received from the Airstream Factory. They were the first Airstream Service to receive the award.

On the other hand, we have not had such good luck at all the other place in the area. On the road people recommend C&G and so we.

I purchased my Airstream from Fred of California Airstreams in Fontana back in '05. It was quite a bit less than Southwest. I didn't care for the people he had in service and didn't go back.

As far as service, I've had my trailer serviced a couple of times at C&G and had to bring it back. I would agree that they are very nice people but maybe because they are second generation owners with an almost monopoly on service, they tend to be little lax for my taste in the oversite of the work and things weren't done as well as I would have liked.

I've had quite a bit of things done at Inland RV. Replaced part of the skin, interior mods, solar, and have always had very good work done by Greg. He's a good guy. Sometimes they are pretty booked and it can be a wait to get in. They will also refer you to C&G if busy.
