There's always a risk of frame/floor damage, but you can greatly reduce the risk by buying a vintage Airstream that has:

a. Been lovingly maintained
b. Garage or Barn kept
c. Spent its days in the Desert Southwest

I've bought three Airstreams here in Arizona and have had no issues with the frame or floor. However, you will need to replace the axles if that hasn't been done already.
