Newbie question 1978 Argosy 27

My mother has a 1978 Argosy 27. The trailer has not been used since 1990, and has been sitting in an open, exposed storage unit. The exterior has lost much of its paint, it has an electric jack. The tires, surprisingly still are keeping the trailer level. The inside is dirty, but all compartments and doors seem to close properly.

My question is this.........Does this trailer have any value, or is it something that we should sell for next to nothing. She is tired of paying the annual storage on it.

The trailer is located in Oklahoma City.

The value guide puts its value somewhere between $1200 to $2300. Given your description it would be closer to the $1200. PM(private message) me some pictures and your e-mail address and I might be interested in it. I have someone looking for a cheap unit to renovate and export. His ceiling is $1000 for a unit though. So if you are interested let me know.

Argosy 78 cont

Depending where you are located and if the trailer has leaks or not and whether the appliances are usable I would say in my area (PNW) the trailer is worth between $3k to $5k.

Obviously, the more someone is interested in it, the less they will tell you it is worth

In the TX/OK area, it's certainly worth no less than $2000, and you'd be hard pressed to get more than $4000 for it. By simply fixing the exterior cosmetic issue, you'd remove the largest single ding to its value. Cleaning it up would be a good investment of your time.

Sorry about the mess - mom has not been inside the trailer since my dad died in 2002.

The inside looks pretty good, the outside looks pretty bad. The main thing is I'm going to bet the axles have gone, so it needs $1500 of new axles before it moves any big distance.

That's the main thing you'l hear from a seasoned buyer trying to haggle you down.

All I can say is what *I* would want if I were selling that trailer. I'd clean it up well, tidy the outside, and aim for $2500-3000, but be prepared to be haggled down on the axles. I would allow half the cost (because I'm not getting the benefit) and seek to *get* $1750-2250 cash.

Cleaned up, painted properly, with new axles, tires and with all systems running, you could reasonably get $4000-$6000 without any major problems.

Dave add $500 for tires and rims. The inside is not as good as you think. Moldy carpet, upholstery, drapes and bathtub. It's all yours. I'll pass on it thank you. If you want to pay $3k it's your funeral.

I would clean up the inside, wash all of the walls and ceiling and cabinetry with Simple Green cleaner straight from the bottle and rinse with clean water. Clean up the outside as best you can, it's worth at least $2000.00 the way it is, after cleaning. You can do some inquiries on the internet, just type in Argosy Travel trailers and hit search. You will see prices from $1000 to $10,000 depending on condition.

wasagachris,

Maybe you should look how much this type of thing sells for in this part of the country by checking on CL - anything Airstream or Argosy-related often fetches a 50% premium over prices in most other parts of the country.
