Smile Newbie needs help on 1974 Sovereign value, please

I'm looking at purchasing a 31' 1974 Sovereign in CA. It has twin beds in the middle and rear bath with the L shaped couch up front. It is original condition with new upholstery in the front, new toilet, new refrig, but 2 dents up front by the tongue from road debris? the heater doesn't work and one of the windows on the drivers side has small crack on the inside. I couldn't find how much a heater was to do the value thing and it needs new carpet in interior also. There has only been one owner and they are asking $7,000 which I thought was too high from everything else I saw on the forums but I didn't know if it was an insult to offer $5,500 because of the dents and the heater. Any help would be appreciated. I've looked at several but they were way too much work before this one.

We got the same kind ours had lot of floor rot. Check by the door and below every window do it with a ice pick. Also the back section under sink can check by opening the back hatch.

Excellent advice!

I have yet to see an Airstream of that vintage without some minor issues. FWIW I think you put in a fair offer. The dents unless very deep are primarily cosmetic. I would be much more concerned about floor rot in the places that Stoney mentioned. Also step up on the rear bumper and carefully observe the joint between the body and the flat flashing there, any noticeable movement is too much and means rear end separation issues and all the resulting fun.

Axles and running gear are also a concern in a unit of that age, especially if it has been sitting for any length of time.

Seems like 7000 would be the max for them to want (in their dreams). Stay at your bid/return offer and sit on it.
