New Airstream Classic?

My wife and I are going to purchase a 2015 or later Classic 30. Normally, I would consider new but, after reading quality issue horror stories on this website, I'm a little scared of that. Our nearest dealer is Colonial who seem to have a good reputation on here but I detest the idea of repeated trips to the dealer and/or a several hundred mile journey to Jackson Center to address production issues.

It's not clear what the probabilities are...

Has anyone bought a Classic (or similarly big) Airstream and not experienced a host of issues?

Host???? of issues? That depends on your definition. All rvs are maintenance pigs. I haven't had major issues, by my definition.

All of the Airstreams I have purchased (5) have been used....I let someone else take the hit....I really love the new 33' classic unit, but I will wait for a used one to purchase. My best experience in buying used both the 2005 34' Classic Limited S/O, and the 2007 396XL were from Bill Thomas camper sales in Wentzville, MO. huge drive from upstate NY but worth it all the same. I have been to NJ before, but I am not satisfied with the personalized service. Regards, Bob

After a year with a new 2016 Flying Cloud I'd say our issues have been minor. I've been using equipment, mowers, loaders, chainsaws, tractors, etc. for years. Have been a homeowner for years too.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm a jack of trades, and have found it to be handy with the airstream.....a few things to fix but nothing major.

Case in point, just the other day, in the morning, water pump worked fine, headed out of West Virginia, up 81 North, stopped for an airstream potty break......pump no worky. Sitting in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, traced a pump wire to the loose end, where a factory 'crimp job' had failed.....stuck the wire back in, crimped it tight with pliers, and VOILA

Good luck!

We have a 2016 classic. We have experienced no major issues. (I think this may have something to do with the prep process performed by our dealer - Chicago Airstream.)

In my opinion, for the Airstream Classic price point and all the complexity involved, perfection (or close to it) is an unrealistic expectation.

Sure, I had to tighten a few screws & fittings, re-align a few drawers, and adjust a few window shades, but I can live with that.

We have a 2017 Classic and have used it since September for about 90 nights in all kinds of weather and temperatures - the issues we have had:

Front door was not aligned correctly - Factory repaired.
Alde system not set up properly - Factory filled fluid - I adjusted and got working
Front day/nigh shade came apart - I fixed
One drawer opened while traveling (wife put way too much in it) I altered closure.
Short in display panel for trailer - Factory fixed.

All but the little front window shade and the drawer were not corrected by the dealer on set up, so we drove to the factory for a tour and have the door and short repaired and Alde system set within the first week of ownership. A terrific trip and decision.

The trailer is terrific and we not consider anything else at this point.
