Inspector in Albuquerque??

Is there anybody in Albuquerque that would be willing to do an inspection for me?

Thanks,

Woody

Yes, there are lots of members in and around Albuquerque. In part, this depends on just where the rig is that you want inspected.

The rig in question is located on the Holiday Travel Trailer's lot.

I am interested in the 1983 Excella 31 footer. I think it may be a little overpriced, and was hoping for another opinion. I like the layout, but abhor the upholstery patterns. I am seriously interested though.

The link is here:

1983 Airstream RV AIRSTREAM EXCELLA 31 Travel Trailers at Holiday Travel Trailers 1983 Airstream RV AIRSTREAM EXCELLA 31 Travel Trailers

There is a large dent in the upper endcap, and that is a job that I would probably have to have done for me. Any ideas on a cost for this job would be helpful????

Would you be willing to look at it online, and tell me what you think? If I get the general consensus that it is a good deal, then I'll see about an upclose inspection.

Thanks,

Woody

The price seems high to me.

I might be able to get out there the beginning of next week, but I would only have time for an impression rather than a thorough inspection.

Personally, my experiences with Holiday RV have not been very good. Other people like them though.

Lumatic,

I would surely like your opinion on what you think a good price for that unit would be?!?!

I called the dealer earlier today, and they informed me that it is on consignment. I didn't ask about whether or not the owner would be willing to come down on the price.

Thanks for the heads up about your experiences with that dealer, I will definitely take that into consideration.

Any other insights or opinions would be most welcome. You won't hurt my feelings.

Thanks,

Woody

Looks like another dent at front roadside; we had a coach like that, they are nice, but I wonder how well this one has been maintained. Can paperwork be looked at as to upgrades, etc. ?

Just realized you now have 2 different opinions on Holiday - so I guess its a 50/50 - what I know is they have been around a long time and is family owned, they just aquired the Airstream franchise about 3 years ago and although I not personally done business with them, have heard they are honest folks.

The trailer looks "well used" to me and I think you could do much better at that price - I don't like that big dent in the back and the pictures which generally show things better than they are, show me a well used trailer...

As far as price - look in the classified, trader on line etc and see whats selling for that price - there are tons of 31 footers around and they tend to be hard to sell as most want the shorter trailers.

My opinion of Holiday is based on:
1. They only will work of newer units. They will not work on my 70s.
2. For insurance coverage I was directed to go to a AS dealer for a statement of how much my AS is worth. Holiday is the only one around Abq. The father pulled out a NADA blue book and told me it only goes back to 1975. Said a 75 is worth $2500 so my 71 has to be worth less. He refused to even look at it and gave me the bum's rush to get it off his lot. Not before offering to replace a couple of dented panels for a few thousand dollars however(the panels do not need to be replaced).

Several people have told me to avoid the old man and talk to the son.

It would be interesting to use the NADA value as a negotiating point.

On looking a little closer, looks like some sun scald. We bought our '84 Excella for 16K in perfect condition in 1992; they don't become worth more (or the same) unless restored.

I looked at this Airstream about a year ago when I started looking for one, it is a consignment unit and it is WAY over priced. I would guess this why it’s been on the lot so long, the owner is going to have budge on it if they want to sell it.

As for Holiday trailer sales… I couldn’t think of any one I would rather do business with, they really are god honest people! I just picked up my Classic from there today after having some Aluminum sections replaced on it, the price was fair and the work was as good as you could ask for!

I would think you should be able to buy a good clean 1980-85 for under 10K, i think this unit should go for around 8-9K

Lum - yes it is true they are not into vintage units - their primary focus is new stuff - I would say that most dealers don't understand vintage units or what they are worth.

My understanding is they have attended classes in Jackson center and they were getting pretty good at repairs - again they are still new in the business and are learning this stuff.

Given the current market, you should be able to get a screaming deal on a 31 footer..

If that........my guess the owner gives a rat and is content to wait for the AS mistique to suck some rookie in.

Nada

All,

I just looked on NADA, and the website says this rig is only worth $2500+-.

If that is the case, then it really truly is WAY overpriced. I wouldn't object paying a bit more than NADA for the work that has been done, but not that much.......

I'll call the dealership back on Monday, and see how low the owner is willing to go. Most likely have to start looking elsewhere.

Thanks for all the replies,

Woody

Makes me wonder about the dealer not being forthright; does he own the coach?

Mike,

When I spoke with the dealer, he informed me that the rig is on consignment. He mentioned that a local lady owned it.

I would have to assume the dealer is just trying to sell for the owner's asking price. However, after the rig sitting on the lot for more than a year, one would think that the dealer should inform the owner that the asking price is way too high. Having an extremely overpriced rig on the lot for a long time is not a good business practice. If that was my lot, I think I would inform the owner that she will need to either take the rig elsewhere or reduce the price to a more competitive number.

I rolled into Holiday after I put my semi-vintage (1986) Sovereign into a portico which resulted in a new "moon roof" and a mangled a/c unit.

Andrew (the son) had me back on the road in a week and I couldn't be happier with the repairs.

He doesn't work cheap but the work is excellent.

Thumbs up A vote for Holiday

I have nothing but good things to say about the family owned and operated Holiday Travel Trailers in Albuquerque. I have always been treated fairly, honestly and with respect, both when purchasing our Airstream and when having it serviced.
