first time buyer question

i have decided to jump into the airstream dream and purchase a used 2006 safari SE, 28ft. Wondering if anyone can give me a list of things to look for and to ask the owner before I take the plunge?

I sent you a pm but I would reach out to the members on the inspection list. It's located on the portal page in the lower right hand side. Good luck and welcome to the addiction!

Welcome to the Forums - and to the wacky, wonderful world of Airstreams! If I were you, I'd spend some hours here on the Forums, just reading. Lots of useful information.

But with a coach that new, there should be few problems. The tires are almost certainly due for replacement if they are original ... and I'd want the bearings repacked and the brakes checked before towing the machine home.

One other thing I'd definitely do is to have the owner demonstrate that EVERY system works properly. And if you can locate a local volunteer inspector here on the Forums, that could be very useful.

Finally, if you've never towed a trailer before, you ought to connect with someone who has, and who can help you make sure your tow vehicle is up to snuff and that you're hitched properly. Good luck!

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to your questions, here are the primary things to look at.

1- Check the outside for any damage or corrosion.

2- Examine the interior for damage and excessive wear.

3- Ask for a demonstration of all of the systems. These include the air conditioner/heat pump, gas furnace, refrigerator, water heater, electrical system, converter, stove/oven, and the water system including the water pump.

4- Check the tires and brakes. Keep in mind that the tires (if OEM) are about 5 years old already, and will need to be replaced in the next year or two, regardless of mileage.

5- Review the sellers maintenance records.

Good luck, Brian
