Financing and Insurance?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but what is a typical financing deal (terms, rates, etc.) on a new 25 foot Safari (say about $55K selling price)? Also, what would insurance run in comparison to an SOB for the A/S? Double or triple for the A/S?
Thanx, Lance

Hello TennisMan -- and welcome to the Forums! I financed thru my local credit union. They have standard rates for RV loans. Secured by the title to the RV, their rates today are 5.9% (36 mo) to 7% (72 mo) for new trailers (vs. new car loans approx .2-.5% lower).
I insure with Progressive -- it's pretty much proportionate to the value of the trailer only and not specific to it being an Airstream.

Also, how much is typical off of MSRP? 15-20%?
Thanx, Lance

Check with Nationwide, they have our vehicles and the Airstream is around $90 every 6 months.

RV Financing
Essex Credit specializes in RV financing and the current rate for a 20yr loan is 6.6%. Banks and Credit Unions have comparable rates but usually won't finance for as long a term. Since it is a simple interest loan thru Essex, you can always pay it down faster and save on the interest. They also do loans for fulltimers. Beacon also is a good RV lender, but will not do fulltimer loans , unless you own a house, the way I understand it anyway . Our insurance is thru Good Sams (GMAC). The fulltimers thru them is expensive. Looking at other good companies, but being careful so we dont find out they are not as good as we thought the hard way if something happens.Hope this helps and good luck. 'shaker

Great Financing
We just obtained an excellent rate on our 25' International ccd at the Pentagon Federal Credit Union. If you can keep the loan amount to $39,999, you can finance for 120 months at 6.5% We're still checking on insurance costs.

$90 every six months? What is the agreed value for your trailer? I am paying around $100 a month for my insurance!

Dealer Margins and Discounts
Tennis Man...
There are a number of threads you can search for using tab above and typing in words "discount" and "negotiate" and "list price", for example...
Short version is that dealer cost is assumed to be just under 80% of MSRP. Dealer has to do delivery prep and inspections and delivery work plus may eat some minor warranty work out of that margin. May also pay interest on his inventory after a few months, adding to costs..
Some dealers will discount 15%+ pretty easily, some will not, and some will discount more on inventory model that has been sitting around too long for their comfort... Your mileage and discount may vary...
You should also try to investigate reputation for post-sale service.. Some dealers are great, and custmers drive past their nearest dealer to deal with them. Others don't seem to care about service or customer satisfaction after the sale.. It's worth a premium to buy from good local dealer who has reputation for good service.
