Ever bought from Vintage-Airstream.com?
Has anyone ever purchased a vintage Airstream from
vintage - airstream dot com ?
I'm looking for a fully restored 1960's model and I found one there that I like, except it is in NC, I am in Chicago. They advertise shipping anywhere in the World, does anyone have experience with purchasing and shipping long distance?
Thanks guys!

Look before you buy
I strongly encourage you to actually see the trailer before you commit to a purchase.
If you can't travel to NC, perhaps someone on the Forum who lives nearby or is in the area would be able to do an inspection for you.

Sage advise
Would you buy an expensive used car sight unseen?
Go see it in person or have a forum member eyeball it for you.
Sage advise.

Clarifying my previous comment!
My beware is in reference to not buying any trailer you have not seen personally. I have had no experience personally with Vintage-Airstream.com nor do I know anyone who has.

I contacted him about a 2000 limited 34` with slide out. In his response he just said "sold."

Sorry, but what does this mean? Is he not trustworthy?

There is currently a little fight over the control of the WBCCI forums section of the WBCCI.ORG website. Greg, who owns Vintage - Airstream, got control of the site, others do not like it. Greg now uses that forum to advertise (for free) the trailers he and his subscribers have for sale. In addition to the units he owns he also sells a one month ad on the WBCCI/forum and Vintage Airstream site to anyone for $30. I can not attest to his business dealings. He did file grievances with the WBCCI leadership to try to threaten/silence his opponents. Opponents hope that WBCCI leadership wakes up to what Greg is doing and how it hurts the club's reputation and cancels the club's relationship with Greg.

Nothing but positive experience!
Bought our '68 Overlander from Greg in 2005. Our experience was very positive. Trailer was as advertised. I was off this forum for a while, so I didn't follow all of the WBCCI forum's controversy. I'm not a club member so it dosen't mean much to me. I would do business with him again if I needed to.

WBBCI aside
The WBBCI aspect is just frosting on the cake. I have had contact on a few occasions and will never again. Too bad that a great Airstream refurbishing company has a link....marketing only....they are fine. Find an owner/seller and deal direct.

They have a nice '48 Liner on their site, except the interior looks kind of gutted/empty.

All of Airstreams on his website are listed as being in Charlotte North Carolina. However, each picture has a different background. Is he selling these or is he just a middleman?

From Greg's site content, he does both. Here is the address to his home page Vintage Airstream Classifieds | New & Used Airstream Trailers For Sale It states you can run an ad on his site ($30 for 4 weeks listing, including up to 15 pictures) or he will buy your unit and resell it. I do not know whether he has any actual employees to do repair work or farms it all out. His restoration ad shows two different techs but we do not know if he has any owned facility or employees.

We're also in Chicago, lemmie know if you'd like to tour our '62 sometime. I bought ours from TrailerWorks, in South Carolina. A good buying experience, and my opinion is that if you don't know what you're looking at... crawling around underneath and kicking the tires all day does no good.
I made the decision largely on the good reputation of the seller rather than inspecting it first, and was pleased with what we found. It's always a blast to pick up one of these oldies and bring it home for the first time - we've done it twice - so enjoy the unexpected problems and quirks, and let me know if I can help with anything (happy to lend a hitch if you don't have one yet, for example.)

From what I've seen, there's not a single post in this thread proving this guy is a scheister. Unless someone has a personal first-hand bad experience with Greg, that they would like to post, I could give a rat's flying snotball if the WBCCI has heartburn with him, or whether he was banned from this site, unless the Mods would like to expound on the reason he was banned.
His website looks professional to me, and his rigs look nice. The prices are a bit high, IMO, but if someone is willing to pay then more power to him. I don't know the guy from Adam, but the one thing I can't stand is speculation and he said/she said.
I could go on, but I'd probably get myself in trouble. Anyone care to post a first-hand experience?

Thanks, Frederic!
I don't know Greg or his situation either, but I fully agree that too often I'm swayed by some pretty generic hearsay.
I find the Chikusho's email exchange and Tikiman's experience informative, whereas Tslanier's contribution is a bit too vague to be helpful, IMO.
