Delayed Delivery

Oops...

Guess we should have anticipated the possibility of a delay in the production of our 75th anniversary 2007 19ft Bambi.

We had ordered it back in mid July with a '3rd week in September' delivery.

So now we hear that production has been pushed back towards mid to late October. This is the last run of the special edition and we will have #68 of 75.

Anyways we had planned on using it this fall before the snow flies, and had JUST finished buy a new tow vehicle the day we heard of the delay. I had also ordered hitch and controller.

So mucho $$$$$'s later we realize we won't even get to use it this year..... uuugghh. So we are paying insurance and storage for something we can't even use for another 6 or 7 months.

Lesson learned... don't order a unit mid summer expecting to use it in the fall.... and don't rely on the quoted delivery date to plan any usage of your AS.

Dave, sorry to hear that. Guess that gives you a few more months to look forward to your first camping trip. Here's hoping Winter passes quickly!

That's too bad Dave! I sympathize with your frustrations!

Hope your trip to Lake Placid though was good (to make up for it a wee bit...)!

What did you get as a tow vehicle?

Cheers!

You will have it to use first thing next spring or just make a trip down to the other Orleans and use it all you want.

the local AS dealer told me 5-7 week delivery on an ordered '07 (classic31)... is this reasonably accurate?

Dave.

On the bright side, assuming you bought a brand new tow vehicle, it will give you some time to break in the vehicle. This is somewhere around 1000 miles.

I've wondered how I would manage not towing the AS if and when we got a new tow vehicle for the first 1000 mile break-in period where they tell you to not tow.

I'm sure when you get the 75th, the wait will have been worth it. Keep us posted.

Winter camping?!?

Dave -

Congrats to you for the 'new' AS that is soon to enter your life. Will it ever be the same again? Nope. Changes are coming - all for the better.

Just thinking that since the unit will be winterized on arrival.... why not go 'winterized' camping. Find a campground that has all the facilities and use them. The AS can/ will/ and does provide a wonderful place to be even without the water/toilet hooked up. The other systems should be AOK.

Just a thought.

Enjoy that new TV, the new AS - and the NEW life you are about to head out on!!!!!!

See ya out there on the road!

hi campadk

sorry to read about the delay...reality bites.

some dealers mislead on delivery just to make the sale.

others just don't know how it works with ordered units.

i've mentioned this b4 to those ordering......so again...

do you have a vin # yet? that's the key to conception.

if you don't have the vin yet. call the factory.

if they can't give you a vin yet your delivery date is still speculation.

IF they can give you a start date...then completetion is 2 weeks afterward.

getting the unit from the dealer is another issue....
how long from jc and how long to complete dealer prep...
and who do they 'show' your unit to while u wait.

on the insurance side...call your agent. they can start the policy when the trailer is in your hands...i was slow getting to my dealer by a week and my agent moved the start date...several months IS a big deal...

which tv did ya get? did either yukon work out? you aren't still pedaling for transport are ya?

and at least you have the teardrops for fall camping...you should take on to the norcal rally i'd like to see it....

cheers

Michelle...

Yup our trip to Lake Placid (and Nicks Lake SP in Old Forge) was a blast.

Nothing like camping in ADK land in the fall!

Met a couple with a 1962? Caravelle in near mint condition at Fish Creek.

Tow vehicle is a used 2003 GMC Yukon SLT with 5.3L, 3.73 axel, loaded. 120,000 km but we are pretty happy. Test drove a Yukon Denali... yuck! Much happier with the SLT instead of the 'luxury' Denali...

Jim...

Well have our Bambi out as soon as the snow disappears! Most likely April 07.

finalcutjoe...

I'd check on that too... we ordered July 14th I believe... expecting delivery now about Oct 20.. that be 3 months!! Mind you this is the 75th run on the Bambi's, and that may have something to do with the delays. Apparently all 75 are now sold (ours is supposed to be #68).

crazylev...

No way we would buy new.... the prices of SUV's are unbelievably low right now. Its more than broken in with 120km on it LOL.

SilverToy...

No winter camping for us! The salt up here would wreck havoc on that new baby!

2air...

Thanks for that tid bit... as always you are a wealth of info!

As above, we chose the first Yukon we had seen... was a nightmare to get it (long story), but we are happy with it. Had the shop put on the original wheels and tires and will now sell off the $4,500 set of rims and tires that he originally had on

Hi Dave,

Nice looking T/V, good call on the wheels and tires.

Sorry to hear about the delay, try to think about all the great places you'll be going to, starting next spring.

delayed delivery

Hi, Dave. My mom used to say "All bad things happen for a good reason" The bad is the extra wait for your trailer. The good is, hopefully, Airstream will do a better job building your new trailer. We also ordered our trailer. We ordered it in June 2004 and it was built in July, made it to the dealer in August, and we picked it up September 7th 2004. Sounds like your timing is about the same as our's was. This will give you some time to get used to your new tow vehicle now and your trailer later. Might be better this way instead of learning about two new [to you] vehicles at the same time.

Just an update... tad of venting too.

More delays. We were all excited about picking up our '40 Winker' tommorrow, and my wife calls only to find our Bambi is still in JC!

Gad... April camping is coming up fast.. I wonder if we will have it by then!

On the plus side I am hoping there is a huge team of QC specialist super checking all systems, polishing and ensuring our baby is in pristine shape LOL.

Our tow vehicle is a used 2003 so no need to break it in... its more than broken (in) LOL

Thats it! We are going to camp in the snow with our teardrop!

On the positive side, I guess our weekend is now open for tv watching or whatever....
