Dealer % down for units they already have on order

So I've called around to a few dealers that have units on order. In discussions they bring up I can order it optioned as I desire since the build hasn't started. What is a reasonable % down to pay?

Probably is no different than if you ordered one rather than one that the dealer already has on order. The advantage of ordering one that the dealer already has ordered is getting it sooner since it is already in the build queue. I remember on my first Airstream back in 2001, I placed an order to have one built to my specs. The dealer took $500 down to secure that order.

I was asked, and paid $1000 for one in very similar circumstances. Worked out very well for the dealer and for me. I had a new one to my specs in 5 or 6 weeks. They had it on pre order.

I'm just asking since it seems as the "going rate" is now 10% down even with their own ordered unit. I'm just not wanting to tie up 10% unless it's a good final sales price. Even then I hate having to haggle sales price over something that isn't even built yet without an inspection/walk around.

Does 10% down at time of order seem to be the consensus, or does it vary, in the experience of those of you who have ordered new? We are on the cusp of ordering an EB unit before the Friday cut off, customized for twins, and trading in our 2011 when the EB is ready, paying cash for the difference. Obviously, we'd like to put down as little as possible at the time of order. Thanks in advance! Joe
