We were looking for used in 2015, When the 2016's came out our dealer called and quoted 20% off list for a 2015 27' FCFB, exactly what we were looking for, they also threw in a bike rack. When looking at 2015 27' FC for sale now ,as used, many are asking more then we paid for new. Timing and dealer needs has a lot to do with price. Also we have been extremely happy with our purchase and contrary to most of the discussion on the forum, we have not had any warranty claims with over 200 nights and 30,000 miles on our AS. That being said, I agree that maybe you should really look into the RV experience before you buy anything.

I have bought two new and one used. All needed some type of repair during the first two years. Of course the used had no warranty and I did the repairs.
Buy what you can afford. If money is no object, then hello and go for it.
It's all good.

We purchased a used unit- 2003 25' from a dealer - and I feel we got a fair shake . Is it the "perfect " unit- no but we plan on using it a few times over the next year before I join my wife in retirement . It really serves our purposes for the time being . I guess I would offer this - if buying used you may need to compromise on your want list as good used are hard to find . If buying new you get to wish list your dream AS and pay accordingly.. Enjoy the journey !

I know there are a lot of variables, but is 20% a realistic expectation for the markdown on a new AS?

It sounds like the "used" AS is the way to go. I have owned several used RVs of all types and one new one (unnamed Thor product). The new one gave us the most problems and still wasn't right after 10 years of ownership. My ex took it when I was divorced, she still has issues with it. The point is, I worked up to an AS and knew what size/floorplan, etc. I was looking for when I started. I agree with the renting idea to see if the lifestyle even works for you and what size RV meets your needs. Maybe even start with a cheaper used non-AS unit. An AS for most folks is just a signature away, take your time now so you don't suffer "buyers remorse" later... Good luck, safe travels...

Is there anywhere that you can "try before you buy" with an AS?

Well that sounds like the perfect opportunity to get some miles in!
Maybe they know someone on the east?

LOL! Very true.....but not in the cards for me at the moment. I suppose I should've asked if any dealers offer anything like that? I seem to recall some dealers (not AS) have their own little overnight/weekend spots where prospective buyers can try RV living for a night or two.
