Any sage advice?

Hi everyone - first time poster and hope to be a new Airstream owner soon! Without going into all of the details about what we like, what we really want is to have a unit that has a bedroom/sleeping area in the front of the A/S and lounge area in the back with big viewing windows. We're interested in a 25' FB but the newer editions are just too heavy for our Expedition. Any suggestions on what model years we should focus on that meet our length and weight needs and have the bed in the front? My assumption is that a lot of coastal parking spots will allow us to back into our space and enjoy the view...hence the desire to have the big windows in the back and the sleeping area in the front.

Welcome to the Forums! The FB layouts are very cool and they do have that great rear view... RE towing..check your numbers...we have a firend who tows her 2006 25' with an Expedition...doesn't seem to have any troubles with it...

We have a 2005 25FB that we have camped in over 800 nights and have towed over 70,000 miles. It's great floor plan that doesn't grow old. Our 25FB weighs 7400# ready to camp. I think that towing such a unit is very doable with a properly set up Expedition.

We are planning to be camping in Longmont during the week of May 9th. We would be glad to show you our 25FB while we are there.

Welcome, and best of luck with your search/selection. If we were buying new, 25FB/27FB would be among our first choices, for the nice usable queen bed in the front. We happened upon a great old Argosy with 2 twins, so for now we'll be content with sleeping across the aisle when we camp.

Unless your Expedition has the smallest engine or a low-numeric rear axle, I'm guessing a proper weight-distribution hitch and a good brake controller would allow you to safely tow a 25FB, but of course you're on a mountainous area and will face challenging towing terrain more often than us flatlanders.

As others said, unless you have a 4.6-liter Expedition, you should be able to tow a 25FB. Won't be quick, but it can certainly do it.

But to answer your question directly - The limitation isn't having the bedroom in the front; a 2002-2006 22CCD or 22' Safari or a 2008-current 23FB all have a fixed bed in the front of the trailer.

The bigger problem is finding a trailer with the lounge in the rear. That's a uniquely 25FB/27FB innovation.

Curiously, in our experience, it runs about 60-40 with best views in the back vs best views to the front.

I do understand the appeal of that lounge with all of the windows; our hearts melt when we walk in a 23D or 25FB/27FB with all of the windows, the panoramic window, and the vista views. That unique design trait will probably be the thing that ultimately gets us out of owning vintage (or restoring another vintage trailer) and into a modern trailer.
