25FB vs 27FB

Thanks Brian, that makes sense. I'm always looking for ways to expand the function of the Airstream's features.

I'm weighing a 25 FB against the 23 dinette thinking along your lines, the larger trailer just has more room for more junk. As for bigger bedrooms, that is the last place I would spend money and space on. We slept well in our 42" VW camper bed and our 48" Safari 20 bed, as well as the queen size at home. But that's not to condemn those who can't.

If I recall correctly, the bathrooms with the shower had a cramped toilet area too.

Our "sofa" (i.e., gaucho) is not very comfortable, though we are ok with the dinette seating. The quality of the fabric is not good, they don't line it and the cloth can slide around. We bought some sheep skins and sit on those—keeps the dirt off the cloth and is more comfortable.

We took out the cushion closest to the TV partition and put a cabinet there for a printer and a microwave—we got the idea from moosetags. It frees up counter space and allows a printer. Between the cabinet and the partition there is enough space for magazines, books, maps, etc., plus we mounted a magazine rack on the other side of the cabinet for more stuff. The magazine rack is a clear plastic one we found at The Contained Store. The cabinet was actually a very deep 2 shelf bookcase we found at a unfinished furniture store and ordered out their catalog. The top of it also is good counter space. You can't use the gaucho for sleeping once you do this modification, but this is not a problem for us.

We lived in the 25' FB for 8 weeks last year and had enough storage and didn't kill each other, so it works for us.

Here are some of ours'. SuEllyn built this unit from 3/4" marine plywood. As you will note, we have not gotten a chance to put a finish on it yet.

I removed the cushion; Brian and SuEllyn put their cabinet on top of it. Actually SuEllyn did the work and built their cabinet. Here is what ours looks like except I didn't have the magazine rack yet.

Boy, today I was back at the dealership and snooped-out a 19' Bambi and a 23' International. The beds looked so small.

I have no regrets about my 27' with it's Queen-sized island bed. It really is a bedroom!

On another thread I asked if anyone knew of members that had reverse traded, ie gone from a larger trailer to a smaller one. We started with the 17 Sport in 2007, liked it fine. Then moved up to the 23FB, which seemed like a palace to us. Like it fine. Then we talked some about the 25 Eddie Bauer, interested in the big door in the back. But passed on it. Now we are discussing going the other way, to consider a Bambi 16.

This is all due to a change in tow vehicles, houses, parking places, etc.

I am wondering if others have done something like this.

All 3 of our Airstreams have been 25 footers. I have a few more options when it comes to parking.

Does anyone know the official length of both 25FB and 27FB EXCLUDING the coupling and drawbar, but INCLUDING the rear bumper ? (The official drawings from Airstream with dimentions of both 25FB and 27FB would help a lot and would be highly appreciated).

Also, I am trying to find out which of 25FB built 2005 onwards (except Classic, due heavier weights) are available in Twin Beds configuration, i.e. Safari, Flying Cloud, International, Ocean Breeze, Serenity, Signature) ?

We looked at the Flying Cloud 25FB and 27FB recently at Bates RV. In both cases we prefer the twin bed layout since it provides more external storage compartments. In my mind the 27FB definitely gets the vote. Two feet is hardly noticable in my mind from the outside and the inside storage/wardrobe/pantry is much better in the 27FB.

Since we're currently pulling a 29' the 27 would be a little (but not much) shorter.

If and when we look for a new or used rig we'll certainly give the 27FB layout a look.

The comparison of 25's has a new kid on the block for 2012 with the 25A (twin beds) and 25B (queen bed). Different interior configuration with dinette/lounge in front, a larger bath (same as 30' bath), and both convection oven and gas oven.

We have been traveling in our 25B for two months, very happy with everything about it.

I have had both the 25 Classic and the 28 Classic. The 28 Classic is really 28' 10". The 28 is not a bit harder to tow than the 25 and I have never encountered a campground in 5 years that caused any difficulty. I always tell campgrounds 29' when I make reservations.

After living with the 30 foot Classic (and after spending just over 2 years in the 25FB Classic) - I've moved onto what I really hope is my last (for a least a long time) Airstream as I am soon to take delivery of my favorite interior decor (International Serenity with Mocha Ultraleather) with what I think for myself is the perfect platform - 27FB.
