What is it? I don't know what year, but I want it. Help!
I went to see an old airstream today, wife loved it and so did I. i need help identifying it. I know it is an Overlander.. and it has old style round taillights.
any help is appreciated. thanks, Richard in Texas.. in case the pictures dont show well, the numbers on the plate beside the door are..1160 on top left of tag, 60 on right top, S026 on lower left and S6597 on lower right..

I'll take a guess. There are others who know how to decipher Airstream serial numbers much better than I.
The trailer was built in California.
It was built in Nov (11) of 1960 (60).
It is 26 feet long. Overlanders were 26 feet.
Here is a photo of a 1959 Overlander I inspected a couple of years ago. It was a single axle. Some Overlanders were also dual axle.
Please don't take my guess as anything more than just a guess.

Go to Airstream.com.
Select "Customer Service" and from that pull-down go to "Manuals."
From the list on that page select "Reading VIN Numbers pre 1980."
That should enable you to translate the numbers on this or any other older Airstream.

Thank you,, I had not seen the posts on reading vin numbers. I think David is right, it may be a 60 model. We are trying to talk the owner into selling it. She uses it as a storage shed for clothes... lots and lots of old nasty clothes.

The pic of the data plate you posted was not used until '65.
It looks like a '65 Overlander to me.

This would be a whole lot easier if you could post a picture of the trailer. There were a lot of upgrades in model year 65 over a 60, especially the entry door design, the axles, and the end caps.
Top knows a lot about Airstreams. He is likely correct.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The windows are the clue. It is a 66. I was way wrong. I have a 66 Trade Wind, but my serial number plaque does not look like this one. Maybe the California boys added additional information that the Ohio boys did not, like the 1160 in the top left corner.
This trailer looks like it needs everything. Just the kind of project Top likes doing!

I have made the offer , and even come up 500.00 She is not ready, she has all those clothes in it.. I am talking to her through her son, she speaks no English, and my Spanish is not good enough to bargain with. Next week I will come up again, or offer a building ... I am a contractor, so its not a big deal to put a storage bldg on her lot. I dont want to go more than 3 grand on it., I can see what it is going to take to re do it. I am fairly experienced at re model, and repair. I have three now, 2 waiting to get started on,, 68 safari and 68 international. I know that it will cost me about 300 just to move it to my shop.. tires are goners, and the trunk lid is not there.. soooo, we shall see,.
