VIN Number Location

Can anyone tell me where to find the VIN number on a 1969 29' Ambassador. I have heard from one that it is on the side of the trailer next to the door. There is a series of numbers and letters there,( nine across the bottom) but it does not say anything about it being a VIN number......Help......

That dang VIN

We found a beat-up old Ambassador (I think) in a junk yard. I faithfully copied the numbers off the plaque. After reading all the posts here and on the Thor site about the VIN, what ARE those top numbers, anyway? On this old rig the top ones are E 103 FG.

So I understand from here and the Thor site how to read the bottom line:

I28 J 300

It's an International 28-ft made in Jackson, under 500 so it's a twin bed.

But the year? It's missing that digit after the 28!

It is split nearly in half and mainly gutted BUT IT HAS A DOOR HANDLE/LOCK ASSEMBLY. We have one for our 66 TradeWind but it's beat up, so I am planning on going back and getting this one. I know somebody else here could use it if we can't, but I can't tell from that series of numbers what the year is.

Any ideas, anyone?

I think my first solution is to give in and get a digital camera so I can photograph these things!

Connie

At a certain point (late '60's ,early 70's) they began also stamping the VIN on the tongue (curbside top) under much paint! My '67's do not have it- but a '73 I recently sold did.

You might look through the photo archives to see if you can find a similar trailer...

We have a 69 globe trotter - the name plate Insideout has pictured was not used on the 69's - I think the last year for them was 68??

Anyway here is a pic of our name plate and it is the bottom number you need to look at is the serial number.

Look on the tongue of the frame. It should be stamped there as well on the dawg tag. Hope this helps.

The VIN is the bottom number under where it says Land Yacht in post# 6. My trailer says Overlander in place of Land Yacht since that is my model.

Vin location for 1955 safari 22

Hi There-I am new to this forum and airstreams. We acquired a 22 safari we think 1955. We need to find the VIN and have had no luck locating it. Any suggestions of where this might be?
Thanks in advance for any help

Neblif1 see if there's a plaque next to the door with a short series of numbers.

There should be a badge near the door that looks like this:

It's normally "blue" (like in my avatar image) but the paint can be faded or worn off like this one above. The "O-6165" in the photo above is the VIN Number. If it is a 1955 Safari, the number should be in the range of O-6136 - O-6299.

As others have said, it can also be stamped on the frame somewhere...but ours isn't. However, we did find our VIN number stamped on the bottoms & insides of cabinets though (image below)...our VIN # is O-6421. This won't help you out for registering it though - but will give you a clue on what to look for.

Need advice on possible alternate VIN number locations on a 2000 Safari. Original VIN plate was removed by State of New York DMV and replaced with a NY VIN plate. Original owner had planned on using trailer as a construction office. On a previous trailer I had (1978) the VIN was also stamped on tongue frame, don't know if the practice was used in a 2000 trailer, or if it might be located somewhere else. Thanks in advance for any help.
